Hi everyone,

Ive already done a few searches on what to bring and such , but i still want more opinions.
Ill be traveling to Denmark in mid-december to visit a friend. Ill be staying there for a few days then heading to Paris to stay with family.

Right now I have a T2I. So i have the 18-55is and a 55-250is lens. I would like to buy the 50mm 1.8 soon.Im also looking at the tamron 17-50 f2.8 but ive heard others bringing a wide 10-22 lens.

My question is , what lens should i bring for my trip? I can afford to buy one more lens if necessary (<$500). Also I dont have a camera bag. I was thinking of getting the Burton zoom 28L. Any recommendations for a travel friendly bag?

Any advice is appreciated! thanks!

Mid-december, nice time of year to get some winter shots, altho early january might be the best time if youre looking for snow landscapes.

What do you like to shoot ?

I just realized you live in Denmark. My family came from there. NSF Grundtvig is my ancestor. The 't' in our last name was dropped when my ancestors came to America. The story is a little mixed depending on who you ask. I was told my great great grandfather changed it to make it easier for Americans to pronounce, and I was told that it was dropped by a misspelling when they arrived. I understand there is a church in Copenhagen that was built in his honor or as a memorial to him. One day we want to visit it there and see that church. Are you familiar with it?

Yes, it's called Grundtvigskirken (http://www.grundtvigskirke.dk/) (Grundtvigs Church) here's the google translate of it's history (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http://www.grundtvigskirke.dk/indhold/historien&sl=da&tl=en&hl=&ie=UTF-8)
If you want to see some pictures of it, theres plenty (http://www.google.dk/images?q=grundtvigskirken&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=univ&ei=w7CjTKScAdDfOOmW_McD&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=5&ved=0CEQQsAQwBA&biw=1252&bih=902) on google.
It's located in the northern part (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&q=grundtvigskirken&fb=1&gl=en&hq=grundtvigskirken&hnear=Frederiksberg&hl=en&view=map&cid=4802572154206187993&iwloc=A&ved=0CH4QpQY&sa=X&ei=aLGjTPOrIsP4OZq5-acB) of Copenhagen.

I had a close personal university buddy, who was burried there after taking his own life.

to be honest, i haven't quite figured that out yet.
When i was using my sx10, I would take it on trips to help document everything.
I took it to south Korea this past april, and instantly wish i had a better camera.

I guess when i was in korea, i took pictures of friends when we were out, Architecture , and museum exhibits. I would take pictures of far away land marks but that was very seldom.

The biggest trouble i had when taking pictures was dealing with low light, either in a bar/restaurant , or outdoors at night taking pictures of city streets.

So to make a long answer short: people and buildings :p

When you come to Copenhagen, I assume you will arrive here since you're comming in by plane, one of the things you must see is the new operahouse (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/ff/CopenhagenOperaOutside2.JPG/800px-CopenhagenOperaOutside2.JPG) (location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=da&geocode=&q=Operaen+K%C3%B8benhavn,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&sll=55.681334,12.575553&sspn=0.03789,0.074759&ie=UTF8&hq=Operaen&hnear=K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&ll=55.682158,12.600213&spn=0.004736,0.009345&z=17&iwloc=A)) from there you can take a stroll through Nyhavn (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/36/Nyhavn_copenhagen_denmark_2007-march-31.jpg/800px-Nyhavn_copenhagen_denmark_2007-march-31.jpg) (location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=da&geocode=&q=Nyhavn,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&sll=55.682158,12.600213&sspn=0.004736,0.009345&ie=UTF8&hq=Nyhavn&hnear=Nyhavn,+40,+1051,+K%C3%B8benhavn+K,+Danmark&z=14&iwloc=A)) here you can visit a bar or two or three or... and swing by the black diamond (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/83/Den_Sorte_Diamant_1.jpg/800px-Den_Sorte_Diamant_1.jpg) (location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=da&geocode=&q=Den+Sorte+Diamant,+Christians+Brygge,+K%C3%B8ben havn,+Danmark&sll=55.680247,12.590554&sspn=0.037891,0.074759&ie=UTF8&hq=Den+Sorte+Diamant&hnear=Den+Sorte+Diamant,+Christians+Brygge+1,+1219 ,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&ll=55.678165,12.5881&spn=0.037893,0.074759&z=14&iwloc=A)).

This should provide you with enough for a day or two, but if you're feeling up for it, you can also visit the area known as Christiania (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2f/Huse_paa_volden2.jpg/800px-Huse_paa_volden2.jpg) (location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=da&geocode=&q=Christiania,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&sll=55.670276,12.578744&sspn=0.009475,0.01869&g=Langebro,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&ie=UTF8&hq=Christiania&hnear=Christiania,+1407,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&z=14&iwloc=A)) and take a walk up the saviours chirch (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/73/Vor_Frelsers_Kirke_Copenhagen_2.jpg/457px-Vor_Frelsers_Kirke_Copenhagen_2.jpg) (location (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=da&geocode=&q=Vor+Frelsers+Kirke,+K%C3%B8benhavn,+Danmark&sll=55.669259,12.603207&sspn=0.037902,0.074759&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Vor+Frelsers+Kirke,+Sankt+Ann%C3%A6+Gade+29, +1416,+K%C3%B8benhavn+K,+Danmark&z=15)) where you walk on the outside of the bell tower to the top, which will provide you with a magnificent view 360 degree over Copenhagen.

For this walk through the city, I would bring a WA lens, as you said the 10-22 will be great, accompanying it I would bring your 55-250is aswell as tamron 17-50 f2.8.

If you're into gardens and urban oasis, then you should check out frederiksberg garden (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/39/Frederiksberg_Have_2006.jpg/800px-Frederiksberg_Have_2006.jpg), the kings garden (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/1d/Kongens_Have_Rosenborg_Slot.jpg/450px-Kongens_Have_Rosenborg_Slot.jpg) with Rosenborg casle (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Rosenborg.jpg), Ørsteds garden (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f0/%C3%98rstedsparken_sommer_1.jpg/800px-%C3%98rstedsparken_sommer_1.jpg), the assistant cemetary (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/be/Assistens_Kirkeg%C3%A5rd_1.jpg/800px-Assistens_Kirkeg%C3%A5rd_1.jpg), animal garden (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/69/Dyrehaven_07-06-06_01.jpg/800px-Dyrehaven_07-06-06_01.jpg) and memorial ryvang (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3d/Mindelunden_i_Ryvangen_-_grave-1.jpg/800px-Mindelunden_i_Ryvangen_-_grave-1.jpg).

I hope this has brought some idears as to what to see, if you're up for it, I can come with several other locations that might be worth a viewing.

If you're not planing on staying in Copenhagen let me know in what part of the country your trip takes you, and most likely I've been there and know what to look for.

Well what can you do, I was having fun with him on a friday, got a call from the police the monday after saying he was found saturday morning where he had thrown himself infront of a subway cart.
The guy was a total train alcoholic, couldn't get enough of it, had partisipated on a tv show here called "double or nothing" where he won the grand price on trains and even corrected the judges on the final question.
Why would he chose a subway cart, why not some special morning train where he knew it was it's final departure or something similar.

Oh well, it's been 10+ years, so it's all water under the bridge.

You're welcome, sorry on the 16.th this month I'm 150miles away from copenhagen covering a soccer match, so if you were looking for a guide, I'm not available ;)

I hope my directions have given an insight to what to see while you're here, else let me know and I'll come up with several other interesting sightings.

cool beans , thanks for all the info.

I will be staying in Copenhagen, so all the stuff you mentioned will give me lots to do.
Is it dumb of me to want to visit the Carlsberg brewery?

So far for lens, i have the 18-55 is kit, the 55-250, and i just bought a nifty 50.
So would you suggest my next lens be a wide angle one ?

I will be coming in by plane. How much time should i budget in Copenhagen?
I plan on coming in on the 14th of December (tuesday), Is there enough for me to see to last me until the weekend? please tell me the answer is yes!

Is it dumb of me to want to visit the Carlsberg brewery?I forgot to mention the brewery (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/08/Carlsberg_Elephant_Gate.jpg), as I live close by, it's something I see everyday so as a tourist attraction I never thought of it..

But yes, you should definately pay a visit if you have the time, last time I was there, at the end of teh tour you would be given two pints of your prefered beer for free.

So would you suggest my next lens be a wide angle one ?The 18-55 with the 55-250 would give you great coverage almost anywhere, but when visiting the new operahouse, stock exchange and the round tower I would suggest a WA, simply because from some of the angles it's difficult to backup far enough to get it all with your 18mm.

The nifty fifty will be great when you're at the brewery (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/08/Carlsberg_Elephant_Gate.jpg), eventho it's mainly indoor shots where you would think a WA would come in handy, the area is so big that 50mm is rather fitting.

Yes, and then some.

If the main parts of copenhagen seems to be well covered, there are places like Lyngby (10 minuts by subway) where you'll find architecture like this (http://cache.virtualtourist.com/2252770-Travel_Picture-Kongens_Lyngby.jpg) or this (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/84/Lyngby_Nordre_M%C3%B8lle_vandhjul_2006.jpg) or this (http://www.hifiklubben.dk/files/butikker/lyngby1.jpg).

And if that's not enough, you can take the subway to Ørestaden (10 minuts in the opposite direction) where theres all sorts of new achitecture beeing tried, like this (http://www.ppe-entreprise.s-11.dk/data/gallery/107.jpg) or this (http://www.jsbyggestyring.dk/reff02/slides/HPIM0004.jpg) or this (http://www.arcspace.com/architects/plot/vm/2.vm_houses.jpg) or the building (http://multimedia.pol.dk/archive/00319/BIG_319054a.jpg) given the northern architectual design award 2009.
