A pretty weak night as far as action goes but a few that I liked. First loss of the season but only by 5 and giving up 4 turnovers.

1. Probably the last week for any pre game sunlight shots.

Good stuff Danny. Last Friday was a poor night for me as the skies opened up and I got very wet as did my equipment but all survived. Was very fortunate to be shooting with a new Canon 400mm f2.8L and a new Kirk Enterprise flash bracket rig that I will try to post some photos of later this week. Was shooting on an extremely dark field and the combination of new lens, flash bracket and the rain produced less good action shots than I had hoped for. Here is one that did work

Thanks Vinny.

Yeah I think so Llyod.

Looks good Pat. In three years of doing HS football I have yet to see rain. That's So. Cal. for you.

Another outstanding set!

I sure wish I could even come close to getting this kind of results from night-flashed-football.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Kmunroe

Thanks Bobby, more and more girls kept jumping in and I had to back up about 40 yrds. Was not sure the flash was going to overpower the glare at that range.

Don't worry Tom it doesn't rain in So. Cal. (except that down pour this morning)

Sure way to prevent rain is the purchase a raincover. After shooting in the rain last Friday, decided to invest in the Think Tank Hydrophobia rain cover. Should be in on Monday and now it won't rain again :) at a game.

What did you have as far as flash settings go? E-TTL? Manual? What about your FEC?

Danny, can you also talk about what you did for WB, did it change as the sunlight went away or was it always set, and if so what was it set at?

Cody during game play I used ETTL +0-+2/3.

AZ I just use AWB and adjust as needed in post. At sunset it is a very orange light as you can probably see.

Alright, I'll try going with the +2/3 FEC tonight then!

i am surprised, that using flash is allowed at football- or soccer games. is this always the case?

right.

my impression was, here in europe, they would kill you. but maybe there is another reason, I don't see local photographers "flashing" during games.

actially I saw one at a minor league soccer game, but after 2 minutes he was not so accidently hit by a ball, that a player shot at him.

Ever see a shooter on the floor with an on camera flash in the NBA?

Strobes in the rafters is not the same as using a flash attached to the camera.

Don't most BB player looking upwards when they shooting those balls. Come one guys, ask the real players, they never see the flashes. We discussed this so many times. if you don't want to shoot flash, don't but don't tell me "thou shall shoot no flash".:D
