Wow those are very sharp. What equipment did you use? What settings?

Both were shot with 70-200 2.8L @ 200mm 1/1000 f11 ISO=400.
It was first day out for this lens. I was testing the lens on all shutter speeds, appertures, and ISOs. That's the reason for the strange settings. It was quite a bright day. I didn't have to shoot at ISO 400. Both heavily cropped. 200mm not long enough.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice....You're right that 200 just isn't long enough for the birds in flight. The 400L f5.6 is really popular for birds in flight as it is fairly small, light and great length. You should get one!:D

I am green with envy! I recently tried getting a picture of a falcon in flight and couldn't keep up at all! Thinking about purchasing a 70-200L and your pics have totally sold it to me, even if it means selling my sole! Well done!

Nice job Tony! Your cropped version still looks sharper and cleaner than my full frame bird shots. :D

I took delivery of the 70-200 that day, so I went out like a kid with a new toy, with my camera and just the one lens to test it. I normally use my 100-400L for wildlife. My next lens on the wish list is the 500 f4 (this xmas I hope).

Thanks Terry for commenting.

The one thing I haven't mention is I used a 1DsII for these shots. At 16.7mp I did have alot of cropping power. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks. I wasn't even sure if it is a falcon. I guess it is, somebody would have corrected me by now. Thanks again.

Very nice shots!! I just got a 70-200/F2.8 L last week too... but didn't see a nice bird like this yet. (did some bug shots... and some surfing stuff that turned out pretty nice..)

.. and the 100-400 is on the shopping list... but near the bottom.

Nice shots, congrats on the new lens. I suppose the first one was taken from the perspective of a field mouse. LOL

Nice capture Tony. Was this a "tame" (i.e. falconry) bird?

I've just ordered a Canon 500D close-up lens for this, so I'm looking forward to shooting some bugs when it arrive. Thanks for commenting.

You are quite right Stephen. These were not taken from the wild. It was a flying demonstration.
Thank you both for looking and commenting.

I actually don't think it is a falcon.
The wings look to blunt to me.. I'd guess accipiter.. but I really have no clue..
The UK birds are different.. and we use different terms too...
