Now the 430ex has been announced.

I looked on canon's web site and the 420ex is no longer listed on the site.
so is the 420ex is no longer in production ? should the 420ex come down in price ?

and well there still be some out there too buy ?

I think the answers are all reasonably obvious. If it's not on their site and they've announced a sucessor they won't produce more. It might come down in price, then again they might not care if it takes a year to sell them, you'll have to wait and see. You'll probably be able to buy them somewhere if you want them.

I wonder what the 430EX will sell for.

The 430EX is $299.95 on pre-order at Amazon.com. The 420EX is $186.94.

thanks tim,
the 550ex is not on there site but it still is being sold by B&H and the 580 has been out for almost a year now, but the 420ex is a lowend flash. Some people are still talking about buying the 550 instead of the 580 too save some cash.
So in your opinion is the 420 gonna be cheaper because i am gonna get a 580 and want too get 2 flashes too work as slave light too go with it and do not want too pay the $300 for the 430ex
MSRP for the 430ex is $299.99 US

This puts me in a spot... I was just about to buy the 420EX. So do I wait for a price drop and live without a good flash for another month or 2, or do I hope that the street price for the 430EX is closer to $200 than the list price of $300.... I really don't want to spend more than $200 or so on a flash.

That said, does anyone here know if there are big differences in list v street price with new Canon products??

Looks like I should get myself a 420 before stocks run out, if in fact they do. I guess the only real answer is to wait and see.

Interesting discussion. If the 420EX will do the job for you why buy the 430EX? The 420 is supposed to be an excellent flash all things being considered. I figure this stuff is a lot like computers - decide what you will spend and jump in when you have a need/desire.

Oh, and don't look back. That's what hurts.

Although the 420EX and the 430EX seem like the same animal looking at the names, they're really two totally different animals. The 420EX is full auto with no manual overrides what so ever. The 430EX is more like a "mini-me" version of the 550EX or the 580EX with full manual overrides, FEC, etc. What it doesn't have is the ability to be a master like the 550EX and the 580EX.

The fact that the 430EX has manual controls probably explains the big price diff between the 420EX and the 430EX.

Good to see ya.
Thanks, Scott.

I was having a rare lull moment at work today so I decided to check in. I feel like a Rip Van Winkle now after reading the threads and learning that Canon just annouced the 5D and the 1D2N.
