so my wife belongs to this astronomy club and she can "check out" high end telescopes for weekend star parties. the cost is nothing, she just has to be a member.

i have been looking for somethine similar on the photographic sphere.

is there an interest in setting up a local temporary equipment trade system?

a couple of weeks ago, i needed the 70-200mm f2.8 for the phenoix awards, i would have gladly given up my TS-E for a 70-200 2.8 for the weekend.\

i think i posted an ad on CL and called a couple of local camera clubs to see if there was an interest but no availe, i ended up renting the lens from penn camera for 50 bucks for the weekend.

but the offer is still up, if anyone wants to trade equivelant valued lenses for a short time, i would do so in a heart beat.

i have the 70-200mm 2.8 non-is, 24mm TS-E (version 1) 24-105 4.0 l and a beat up 1.8 first version 50mmm prime..

anyone in D.C., maryland or virginia want to trade for a weekend or so?

i also have several microphone boom stands that would be perfect for hanging lights or strobes.

i have a LOWEL Tota Omni 4 light continious tunsten system with stands and umbrella reflectors.

wireless microphone systems that would match perfectly with the 5Dmk2..

i am thinking that maybe someone would want to say try a TS-E or 70-200mm or something else but maybe not interested or cant spend the money or deposit on a rental or a new one could trade something else of equivilent resale value for a specified time.

people could be rated like feedback on ebay depending on the traders integreity..

the system should be local so trades can happen in real time.. (here is my lens, you give me your flash unit or what ever, we look for and point out damage, show the party how to work it tips and ot tricks, swap stories, make a new friend and say have fun, see ya in a few days!)

what do ya think?

It would be nice.. but I really couldn't trust strangers with my gear...

Also, Im sure people will try and con you or trade broken lenses etc...

the whole telescope thing in the astronomy club works vey well,
we have borrowed a few telecopes already including a 9.25" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope - CGEM Computerized Equatorial Mount and a Takahashi TOA-130emt..

I want to get the Takahashi back for a weekend now that i have my 5Dm2.. but the waiting list is 6months..

as for a lens trade, maybe if there were some sort of verification, such a program might be insprational..

i have a tendency to think people are first honest rather than deceptive..
