I have to vent. It might just be me, but photoshop can be so darn frustrating. I just spent the last 3hrs trying to and the watermark copyright to a photo and Its just not going to happen. I have the book sitting right in front of me and just can't get it to work. It has something to do with the Recording action step. Oh grrrrr. Might have something to do with why they say its for the pros.

If there are any tips for photoshop you want to share feel free
If you just want to vent about photoshop you can do that too.....lol:lol:

Britt777....I feel your pain. I spent $75.00 and 8 weeks in class and I still can't get a hold on using layers. I too have a book in front of me. It can be VERY frusterating but I do find that the more time I spend in the program the more I learn. Slowly...but it does come. Hang in there!

I got a book and it confused me a little bit more. One day I will be able to do all the cool stuff.

britt its actually quite easy, what book are you using? recording an action is all in the planning, having each step ready and all text and what set to go before the actual recording will make it tons easier. BTW don't let PS intimidate you, with a little practice each day you can have it pretty good in about 2 weeks. When I first got it it sat on my comp for about a year, because I thought it was way above my level, now I can pretty much use it without thinking about it, there are some things I am not too good at but I rarely do those things anyway so no biggie, let me know if I can help you in any way (pm me).............Joe

the problem i have with recording actions, is i open - do my thing - and save.
and then i stop recording

but when i try and do that action as a automatic action - it wants to save every time with the same name! so it just constantly overrides the previous pic it stamped

I don't think its just you. Photoshop is a very complicated program and most people I am sure spend years getting the hang of it.

I figured it out, man that is easy. The book made it seem hard to do. Thanks greatly.

The secret to using the save command in an action is to NOT specify the file name. Let it default to the same name as the original you are editing. What you do want, though, is to specify a different folder so that you don't end up overwriting your original file. If you keep the original files and the edited files in two separate folders, you'll be OK.

If you are using CS or CS2 then my framing script will do it for you.

Here are two very good tutorials, on how to make good watermarks. I have used both methods in Photoshop CS .

thanks so much Eric, that is what I am looking for. I want the water mark not just a copyright in text. I will give this a shot. Thanks so much.

Learning photoshop is like learning another language. You spend a long time seemingly stumbling in the dark and then, one day, I GET IT!!!

I've been using PS for over a year and *just now* is most of it making sense. Hang in there!

It's all in the timing I guess....I just got this to work from the tutorial. It turns the text into a special shape that can be dragged, sized, etc on the photo. Works pretty slick.

Oh, and it only took me a week and then a consultation with my son.

BTW - using PS 7

Note this one:

http://the-halls.se/edited/PhotoshopBatch.jpg

If you batch process, click that part to override the action's Save as, so it save the file as you've set it to save in the Batch (i.e. you set up the action, stop recording after Save as..., then create a batch out of it).
