Being new to this game I am having some problems downloading my images. I have set my canon Powershot A40 to the highest resolution possible, but still the images automatically download as Jpegs through Imagebrowser (the software package that comes with the camera). This is tres fustrating as i need them at at least 300dpi. I have read some other articles here where pple are talking about TWAIN and RAW and all sorts of things and I havent a clue what they mean or how I can actually DO what i need to do! Please help! Much appreciated as I just got this new printer but all I get is blurry 72dpi images! ARGHH!!!! Thanks.

The screen resolution is 72 dpi, by default. Try printing your pictures and you'll probably find they're closer to 300 dpi. Always take your pix in the largest size and lowest compression (biggest file size) to make best prints.

Thanks for replying Wildman.
Its funny, when the images come up in Pictureviwer the dpi is perfect, but not from Imagebrowser where (you are right) the default setting is 72dpi.
There MUST be some way of changing this setting, or even downloading the images into another program, not Imagebrowser (the software that came with the camera). I do have photoshop so maybe I could download them directly into there.....would that allow full and immediate control of the res. ?

It doesn't matter. For example, if you print a picture that was taken at your Large (L) resolution setting (it is at a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels) and you print that out on a 5 x 7" print, your dpi is (1600 pixels/5 inches) or 320 dpi. If your printer is capable of printing 320 dpi, then it should be a photo-quality print. In other words dpi is dots per inch. Dots is the same as pixels. ImageBrowser will DISPLAY at 72dpi, but when you download using it, it will still download your images at the resolution you took them. I hope this helps.

Yes, in Photoshop just go to Image-->Image Size, make sure "Resample image" is not checked, and enter the dpi that you want. This will determine the size at which it is printed, which is also displayed.
The commands/menu path might vary a little depending on your version of PS.

You can also download directly into Photoshop, File-->Import-->Twain32.

I have been leaving the resample image box ticked, for what reason, I don't know. So, why is it we should "untick" resample image???
