Results from a very dull first rally with the 100-400L. I was very pleased with the results but I think my low light technique could do with a bit of work...any hints?

All shots taken with a 1DIIn and steadied by monopod. Generally ISO 400/500 was used with a minimum shutter speed of 1/500th across a variety of f stops. I've lightened them up in LR which has bought in some noise so any tips of PP of dark images welcomed.

Cheers,

I was supposed to go there ! I love the first one with the sparks but all the others one are nice : splashes, mud, an interesting backlight ... good job.

those shots are very well done but they are all the same view of the car- got any side shots, or rt 3/4, or rear ? better to break it up a bit.

Definately nice shots, like #4, #5 the best, can't beat a bit of muck & sludge!!

Well I think these are excellent, lovely focus and exposures, nice ,accurate colours and compositions, and not noisy.

Good clean backgrounds and very nice series.(thumbs up from me)

Yes,could been more dynamic from differant place, but often they corner on rails.

Maybe a CPF would have cut a bit of glare(am a fan of there use ),but you obviously know your stuff after 25 yrs of it.

#2 & #3 are the pick of the set for me. I think you've done pretty well here - I'd say you're being a little harsh on yourself!

The only negative as others have pointed out is maybe a little more variation in angles would add a little more, but I wouldn't be complaining with these.

Thanks all. I like the CPL idea but I was struggling enough with light. The CPL I have tends to stop down by at least 1 stop so it was a no-go IMO. Maybe I need to invest in a better quality one.

The comments on composure are totally correct, I do have some rear facing images but not PP'd yet. I find that on Tarmac is quite difficult to get much other than head on or tail on. The muck and rain really did help to make things more lively though.

I posted some shots from Portugal earlier in the year http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=893272&highlight=portugal and the difference in spectacle is immense...
