Here is my first photo of a rose. I think it turned out okay but I'm not sure why there is that purple fringe around the outside of the petals, especially at the top and on the right. If you have any suggestions or comments about that or anything else I would really appreciate it. Thanks for looking!

28-135mm lens, tripod, manual focus, ISO 100 .3 f/5.6

Hi My2girls.

Welcome and thanks for sharing that beautiful Rose pic.

About the purple fringing...

It's called Chromatic Abberation and is cause by the lens when there's a high contrast between 2 colors. Basicaly the lens is letting different colors at different wavelenghts stear off.

Some lenses, such as fluoritde and ED solve this problem. Your best bet is to avoid these situations or invest in such a lens. E.g., "L" lenses from Canon have a fluoride lens wich solves the problem.

Just do a search on Chromatic Abberation for more info and solutions.

Beautiful flower MTG, maybe stop down the lens a bit to get better DOF.

Marc is correct basically and Paul is correct about stopping down the lens here some, maybe to f/8 as not all lenses do well but experiment with settings and 5.6 might be okay for some images and not for others like this one. Len quality has a lot also to do with the amount of this you will get but you might have a bad copy of a that lens and I would suggest doing an online search and see what comes up about that.

Thanks for your help! Is there anything I can do now to fix it aside from reshoot with different settings? I have Photoshop Elements 3 and shoot RAW. Thanks again!

In ACR, there is a "Lens" tab that will allow you to make slight adjustments to compensate for CA. Try those, they work.
