Well I woke up at 04:00 because my back was killing me again so I did some stretches and walked around. Saw this ugly bugger on the stove and took a couple shots with the 70-200 and 68mm tubes. ISO 100, AV 7.1, TV 1/13. I used a flashlight for extra lighting and set the camera on the stove and propped up the lense for the right angle with a dish towel.

Oh yuk! LOL. How big is that creature? Is it like a huntsman type of spider? It's a good shot Dan!

Thanks Sandi, I resized the pic so it should fit on your screen and not look as scarry. Actually it was only about 3/4 of a cm long.
I hate spyders also:o

You are getting there Dan! The spider was a great experiment. The focus is good, just the lighting (flash light) wasn't appropriate. Now the sun is up, u should be able to find nice subjects with good light in your yard. ;)

Very nice colors here and nice composition, I think you could use another pass of USM on it though as it looks like it's a little soft as posted but I see no Artifacts from sharpening the image here so should be able to sharpen with out any ill effects.

Thanks for the comments Rebel and eric. Ran a few more passes of USM
100% and .5
How do you know what settings to use in USM?

This looks much sharper but as far as settings go, you have to look at the image as you USM it and see what looks best to your eyes, Some will do many passes of small USM changes that way they can watch it as they apply to the image, this looks much shapr and the noise doesn't look to have become an issue here yet.

Nice picture, I like the sharpened one better. You might want to do the sharpening on your work picture and not on one that's posted, as it tends to sharpen your signature as well.

Someone on the EOS camera thread just posted that recommended is 300% and .3 for USM
Funny, when I first started reading POTN USM confused me since the first thing that I thought of was the camera focusing motor.
Great shot BTW.

I hope your back felt better after all that rushing to get your camera and setting up the shot. It looks great, very good capture.
