whats the best way to do this without making the photo less sharp? filters? programs? i'm a bit new to this and have a few good shots, but with too much noise / grain.
thanks!

Try TLR Sharpening Toolkit (http://www.thelightsrightstudio.com/DigitalDarkroom/PhotoshopTools/TLRProfessionalSharpeningToolkit.htm). Read all the pdf files too. It'll explain everything.

Did you get to the part where the origin of the name "Unsharp Mask" is explained? His site really opened my eyes to how things like sharpening and noise reduction are intertwined in the workflow. His stuff is not too technical to understand. Glad you liked it.

yeah ive read the USM name explanation before. but that was all i had read before. i'm still impressed with the quality of your link.
page 5 explains how to effectively use noise ninja on a surface layer to reduce softening. really neat - and since i know little about photoshop this is helping me learn a lot.

If you have any questions, TLR belongs to a POTN Member, gmitchel (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/member.php?u=4655)
He is really helpful when it comes to using his tools.

I've had excellent results using the grain/noise corrections in RSE.
