Abandonded Hospital - 4 photos

Last week while I was in Sydney, I went for a day trip to the Blue Mountains with a friend. We were unable to go for a bushwalk as intended so went for a bit of an exploratory mission.

We discovered the Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital. I have subsequently found some background information, that it was de-commissioned in 1999 and was an aged care facility (and not, as I'd guessed, a psychiatric facility). It was a really spooky location.

All photos were taken from outside the security fence.

Your photos convey the spookiness. I looked at the photos before reading the post and jumped to the conclusion that it had been a mental facility. You sure it's not haunted??? Nice work.

"Outside the security fence" disclaimer is a good idea. The way NSW Health is at the moment... if you want hospital shots... do some PJ work on the ambulance queues. You'd be prosecuted for that or at least escorted off by rent-a-cops. What is it in mental terms when the Health Dept is certifiably anxious about photos and scrutiny? Paranoia?

RE security fence - My understanding is that the premises are no longer owned by NSW Health, and I can't think why it's such an issue. Everyone knows that its Queensland's is the one with the super-dodgy health system. :-)

Love the images, Angus. When I was recuperating from Infectious Mono in the U.S. Air Force I was in a facility very similar to this for a few weeks ... quiet, relaxing, mellow. Surf's here so I'm signing off.
