Cleaning Lenses and Filters.

I am just in the process of cleaning my filters and lenses (mostly filters actually...)

I am using lens tissue and cleaner from the photo store, nothing crappy or cheap...

I put a little drop on the paper and then rub in big circles.

However, there still seems to be a little film on the filter that doesn't seem to come off... any tips in this area?

The "film" you see might be the anti-reflective coating which is supposed to be on the filter. Of course, it could be something unwanted also. The harder you scrub on it, the more likely you will scrape off a good coating.

Try using just a lens cloth and warm breath...works good for me...

And is it OK to do lenses as well? I'm frightened to touch anything.

Martin,

Visit Jessops or similar and get yourself a cleaning kit of good quality items:

- jumbo blower
- lint free wipes
- cleaning fluid

You might want to check out some of the items mentioned here:

No reason not to clean lenses, but it doesn't need to be done everyday and the blower is best to remove specks without needing to touch the lens.

Roger
