Hey, I was just about to post that character! I have actually seen a pair of wild Lorikeet's hanging out in the Puriri tree in the back yard, not so good as they compete with the Tui's for food :(
Anyway, here are mine, really strong colour from the RAW converter :D

All shot with my crappy 75-300IS, stopped down to f/8 to sharpen it up

Nice shots Pete. I seemed to be shooting the older shabbier one!
I was shooting only Large Medium JPG, and can definately see the difference, although for my use, it's fine. :)

Where did you take these images? In the Auckland area...?
Thanks

And welcome to POTN by the way, its nice to have more Kiwis around.

Oh this is an old post.
Welcome aboard from Wazza and iKirst. :)
As Moppie said, it's from the zoo, and have more recently last month shot some more zoo pics after getting a friends of the zoo pass for $100 for a couple for unlimited visits. :)

That was FlyingPete who sent that in, he will be very glad to know they left the link in the issue.
I was looking for a copy the other day actualy, but either it hadn't hit the shelves yet, it sold out, or I walked into the only magazine shop on queen St that didn't stock it.

Woohoo! They left the link in the letter :D
I was afraid they would possibly edit it after such a shameless plug for our great forum!
BTW, welcome on board Elyse!

Well it may have been the most useful part of the issue for me!
I subscribed to the mag, but I have a feeling this one is the last until I renew it.
What do you all think of D-Photo?
Recommend any other goodies?
Thanks all for the welcome

I haven't subscribed to magazines myself, simply due to the invaluable information shared on these forums. Whether it's technical details, or just sharing images and getting ideas on settings etc. It's a great place, and I'm happy to stick around for a long time to come. :)

That's good. Another thing you have to learn with the local bunch, is there's plenty of guys, but they're all with wifes etc, and myself, I'm with the lovely Kirst, (www.ikirst.com), so it's not like some typical local forums of hormonal nutters. So invite your friends along too, you'll get free "Kodak Brownies" from Pete. ;) Just ask him about it.
Lorikeets are fab. Kirst had some of those too.

Wise - I wouldnt recommend Lorries being near tots with inquisitive fingers.
Lorries aim for the most painful part of a hand if they want to be cheeky enough (read: the webbed bit between your fingers)
The noise they make when they are turbo fiesty mood might startle delicate ears a little too much, too
Brownie Compliments might be deliberately placed in future due to what they result in ;)
Warren - sorry for thread hijack - you and Pete both got great captures of the Birds. It makes them look like they wouldnt hurt a fly ;)

That's so true, my bird definately knows where to bite. Did you get the classic case of the female bird going for the men....my bird loves my Dad to bits. When he leaves the room all we hear is "kevvviiiiiiiin" and even with my boyf "richaaaaardd."
They're the funniest parrots, get a lot of humour but don't think we'd get one again, lot's of commitment.
Did your lories eat chicken, ice cream....the works?

Ah - I haven't had Lorries for 5 years now, Elyse. Oscar (the boy), unfortunately, didn't cope with a severe winter (thanks to an idiot flatmate). His girlfriend, Kitty (hehe), went from being super Biarch towards anyone, to a complete neurotic mess. She never ever wanted to leave my side. So sad really, because I wasn't quite her mate and she eventually passed of a broken heart :(
On the light side of owning them, though, was how they totally adored water - specially the hose and a sink full of bubbles, they chased my old Rotty around the house, mimmiced most everything they heard.. but mainly anything I said, and the dance (you know, the bobbing Lorries do) to any music. And yeah, human food was far FAR more intersting than their nectar and dry mix food. Especially baked beans, milo, coke and Ice cream. I kinda went off eating any form of fruit for a while after watching how they pulverised it all...
PS - I forgot to welcome you. Hi :D :D

Yeah I think the day he dies will be very sad, but then I hear they have a long lifespan of about 20+ yrs. We have a dog bowl in a basket (if you can picture that) and that is Ollie's bath which he loves and we also hose him in the tree.
He also bobs up and down and says "daaaaance". Some pet stores say, "oh they just mimic they don't tallk"...which I think is false because he definately knows what he's saying.
I gave him some pumpkin soup a couple of weeks ago, he went through that like a vacuum cleaner.
Anyway we had better leave this post as it was originally I guess..:D
Thanks for the welcome
