Hi Chris, Nice shots! It looks like either a pretty intimate venue or you had some very cool access to the show.

Yup, nice images! Flash? I can't use flash at the casino ... or get this close to the talent. Love all the hair, too. :-)

Flashing like crazy, no lights to speak of in the tiny club.

Back for another look! I still think the hair display is profound! :-) Also had a few minutes to look at your website ... your images are awesome!

Many thanks Dwight, that means a lot coming from someone who I consider to be a hell of a music shooter! Does it ever get you down that of all the different photographic fields music photography gets the least love? :)

In answer to your question: YES!!! I belong to and sometimes post at PhotoBlink, but almost all of my Live Performance images got awful ratings ... everyone seems to think they should look like studio shots as though you control the lighting and placement of models and everyone stands still while you compose, expose and shoot! But any image of a scraggly bird or beach sunset or cute girl gets great ratings. So, while paying a lot of attention to the criticism for a couple of years elevated my photography from "snapshots" to a pretty high level of professional, getting constantly beat up because of color casts, shadows, obstructions, ad nauseum does get very 'down putting'. I find I really enjoy sharing these images here where there are a good handful of other guys working various venues who are really, really able to appreciate what is going on, how hard it is, how bad the conditions are (I do shoot at a couple of poorly lighted venues), etc.

I honestly think you're doing some great stuff, Chris, and hope you can make the time to exhibit it here regularly. Sometimes a new kid will need some help and having more threads to point them to really helps a lot. This is surely an area (Live Performance) where there is room for everyone and the better each of us is the better off we all are!
