I am looking to buy a new digital camera to replace my Sony Mavica that is about 5 years old. I have looked at many reviews, and Canon seems to make some of the best and smallest cameras. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money, so my choices are limited. I was originally looking at the Canon Powershot A10. It seemed pretty basic, though. I then found the Powershot ELPH S100 and S110. They aren't much more money, and have many more features and are much more compact. What I want to know is what you guys think is the best out of those named, and what are the real differences between the s100 and s110? If there is a better camera in the $100-$300 category, please tell me about that, too. Thank you.

Also, I am worried about the E18 error. What is known about that to date?

Get the s230. If you buy it from Dell on sale, it is about $330.

If you can swing it you should try to spend a little more. You will appreciate the results. And your purchase will last you longer.

I have the S400 and LOVE it. I can't believe what great shots you can get out of such a tiny camera.

I usually post on dpreview's forum but figured I would check this one out tonight. I never saw it before.

So being new here, I'm not sure if I can post a link to an a gallery I have recently set up of pictures I have taken with my S400. Mostly are of my daughter.

Please let me know what you think.

If you find yourself interested in the camera, Amazon is a quick reputable place to order:

I really think if you spend the extra buck, you will be happier.

I can't swing the S400. I don't really want it to last forever, either. I am 16 years old, and would like it to last until college (2 years). I don't make much money, and just want something that is cheap, but still takes decent photos. I mainly want something to take to school, and a more expensive one would be too risky.

Got it. I have to say, I admire that at 16 you would drop the coin for something like this. At 16, I would just buy music or booze. I was young and stupid.

Good luck with the camera hunt.

Cory: my daughter uses an S300 (now S330) which is 2 Mega Pixels. It takes pretty good pictures, especially if you do not print it to bigger than 8x10". The s330 is now replaced by s400 which is a lot more expensive. Search the web, like http://www.eopinion.com or http://www.cnet.com to see if they are still available. I am not familiar with the s100 or s110. You can search those two sites to read their past reviews. If s330 is no longer available, then s230 is your next choice (in terms of money, and as I said, you can order from Dell for about $330, but if you search Amazon and these web sites above you may find it cheaper). Another alternative is to go to camera shops and buy used equipment. They are usually guaranteed by the camera shop, but you will have to find a reputable one from your area.

Well, the s100 and s110 are both 2.1 MP cameras, so I would imagine that the photo quality would be at least comparable to the s300. Also, the s100 is about $150 new on ebay (most retail stores don't carry it since it is about 2.5 years old). Thanks for the help, though, I might get an s230 or s300 just to have something that is under warranty by a retail store...

Also, on epinions, the s100 has an average of 5/5 stars (after 104 reviews). The only main negative that I see is the battery life, but I priced extra batteries, and they only come to about $20 each..
