Well, I'm not a tattoo'd person and my only piercing is an earlobe, but these are interesting and well done. I have thought about tattoos but its just not in my culture.

Do you think we should get together then at an appointed studio (I'd recommend Innervision Studios is Surry Hills myself if we can get Megan to do the work & she is still there, the portrait she did for my left arm is the tattooists tattoo :D) & get tattooed with the Canon logo??
Australian Canon Users Group.
Hell, I think I'd even fly home for that one!!!! :D

Bike, that's what worries me ... tattoos are done so well any more and are generally very safe ... my wife and I have considered getting small matching somethings once or twice, but it really does go against some teaching of my youth somewhere ... but I'm open to seriously considering it.
Yes, I think everyone should fly down under and get a POTN tattoo ... oh, but I'm busy that weekend, sorry. :-)

Hey Brad it'd be great if you flew home to do that, I'm certainly up for it.....I'd like to finish off my full sleeves before a studio shoot though and I'm a little way off that, a couple of more big pieces then the fill in background and I'm there.

Ouch! This pictures are great, but I bet there is a fair amount of pain involved. What dedication.

Geez, yeah, I forgot about the pain ... can I substitute dying my hair instead? :-)

Hehe. I'm sure Roger will back me up here. It doesn't really hurt much. It's like being flicked with a rubber band over & over. Only thing is you can't tell the person to stop it, ;)
I'm all for dying ones hair as well (& piercing), but it's not forever :D :D
Tattoos, they're forever..... :D

Hey Brad, yep that's quite true and after a while you kind of go into this self hypnotic state where the stinging fades into the background, a couple of sessions ago I nearly fell asleep lol........Mikegoat, got anymore cool tat pics, these have been great?

Quick question on the last image of the guy. Did you bracket your flash?
If so did you go down a stop for more light? It would be nice to have the settings that you had on the shot.
Oh by the way great shot!!!

Ok I know I am being a pain in the neck. Do you always use that setting on your flash or did you set it up on this shoot?

It was a lot more random than that...I tried to get an exposure that gave me a decent histogram. I am very poorly organized and feel lucky when I remember to load a memory card in my camera...:o

Oh, right, Mike, poorly organized, my butt ... not with those quality images ... even if your wife makes you put the CF card in, it still counts as organized. As a side note, I had about 15 actinic keratoses frozen about an hour ago ... my face stings like a bunch of little bees got to it. I imagine with is somewhat similar to a tat. Perhaps it is BECAUSE you find the discomfort so enlightening that it is appealing ... not all of us react the same to pain. Great pictures! Do most inkers tend to cover their art in "normal" situations, such as the workplace?

Firstly, Mike, I love the girl in the recent ones you posted, she's gorgeous with beautiful tattoos. The tribal guy is interesting. Facial tribal has special meanings in some place like New Zealand, it says a lot about your caste & position in society. One tattooist I know back in Sydney (herself a Kiwi) told me about 2 American sailors who insisted on getting a particular design on their face. What they didn't know was that this particular design stated that they were female slaves.....
Anyway Dwight, it really depends on your job & the nature of your employers for work. I used to (thankfully, "used to") work in IT support & it was fine, casual wear with tattoos showing, but mine are such that with business attire, no one ever knows I have tattoos at all. And I guess the company you keep too, LOL....
There is a saying that is sometimes on the wall in tattoo studios. "The only difference between tattooed & non-tattooed people is that tattooed people don't care if you're tattooed or not". My nephew asks me to take mine off before I sit down at the table to eat. I told him when he turns 18, I'll pay for any tattoo he wants, my brother (his father) said he would knock me flat on my back if I did, hehehe.

All of you are too kind! I have really just reconnected with photography as a passion. I enjoyed it a lot in college, had a darkroom etc etc, then as life went on, other passions took center stage-family, job, Corvettes:lol: . But now, it is like the return of an old friend. I really like the photo journalist approach to picture taking- a little rough around the edges, and people, people people. My wife says I am a little aggressive in my picture taking. I just try to be straight " I want to take this pictrue, so I will take it. If permission is needed, I will assume a yes answer unless I am told No, and say something like "I am going to take your picture, OK?" and stop only if asked. So many times I catch myself trying to compose and perfect the shot only to scream to myself "TAKE THE D*** PICTURE BEFORE YOU LOSE IT!" I have taken more pictures of cars at races and other events than I care to count. BORING. I liked Diane Arbus' work if you get a sense of what I would really like to be able to do. She saw so deeply it was scary. I find that people who live outside my ordinary frame of reference are accessible, kind, and nice once you get to know them and understand what interests them. Life with passion. That is what counts.

"Life with Passion" ... OK, you see my latest at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=95574 as it should appeal. Oh, and while we may, in fact be "kind", I can assure you that it is not our kindness that we are expressing in our appreciation of you images ... we like 'em!

Again fantastic photos Mike, you photograph people well and I think it's a bonus to have an assertive attitude to people shots but also the sense to respond to people's wishes not to be photographed. I think that's why the Paparazzi are so reviled a lot of the time, they will get the shot no matter what, I won't do that.
The subject of keeping covered up, it's interesting for me as I work in the mental health field and some of the psychiatrists I work with have a field day trying to reconcile my narcissistic tendancies with the good work I do with clients heh heh. I don't cover my tats at work and have found more benefits than deficits with people from all walks of life. As one guy put it "you've seen a bit of life, I can talk to you"! I paid for my youngest son's first tattoo for his 16th b'day, it freaked his mother out, but hey you get that eh'.
Hey Dwight I can relate to the freeze process, I go every six months and get zapped about the same number as you, I call my guy Mr Freeze.....holy liquid nitrogen Batman lol.
Roger.

Mike, you need some new socks! BTW, why do some folks only get single color tattoos? Your gecko is a good example. I'd want it with many colors.
Bike, my face is a mess today ... might as well have had it done with tribal tattoos! My wife suggested to my 3-1/2 y/o daughter that she do 'connect the dots'! I suggested once or twice that I might pay for my son to get a small tattoo when he was in the stage where he tried piercing (he gave it up) and wild hair things ... my first wife almost fibrillated on the spot!

Hey Dwight, I know this sounds weird, but I assume you are taking pictures of yourself in its post burn off stage. I document that stuff. Had eyelid surgery to get rid of bags under my eyes and within a minute of coming home from the surgery center took photos. I like to document the good, the bad and the ugly. Even if the latter is me from time to time!

Mike, no, never thought about it. I did once try to shoot some acupuncture I got, and a few "fat" pictures when I was trying to drop weight, but in general I don't shot "documentary" self images. Perhaps this is why you guys are into tats and I'm not ... although I did shock my 90 y/o mother tonight and upset my father-in-law (always a good thing) by saying that Marna (my wife) and I were thinking of getting tattoos! Father-in-law sounded like he was going to burst a gasket! :-) So we may be FORCED to get some ink!!!!!
