Today was my grandson's birthday. He announced to my mother "my twos are gone." He is three today. His mother made this cake. I thought that the lighted fans were too cool. I couldn't keep him from blowing out the candles. :p
I shot this hand held with the 17-85, ISO 400, f/4.5, 1/8 sec, no flash.
Cropped, straightened, and one sharpening pass using Picasa2.
Tell me what you think.

I think it's excellent with the available light! Don't you just love that 17-85? I know I do. The IS allows such slow speeds hand held as you did!

Well done Skip!;)

Agree about the 17-85.. cake looks sharp indeed - you did well at that shutter speed :)

Very nice job. 1/8 second is pretty tough to hold and this looks very crisp. Neat cake too.

Thanks for the kind words guys. The IS on my 17-85 is awesome. I was trying to tighten the aperture to increase the dof. I got it to f/6.5 at 1/3 sec, still pretty good but the shake was beginning to show ever so slightly. I should have tried ISO 800 but the kids wanted to eat the cake :-) so I am happy with what I got.
Thanks again.
