I've only got Elements, but have you tried fiddling with the Adjust Lighting -> Shadows/Highlights (or whatever it is called in Photoshop)?

Use lighting or reflectors. No?
Use a curves or levels adjustment layer to brighten the whole image a bit, add a layer mask, fill with black, paint with white on a really soft and low opacity brush where you want to brighten it up.
I don't think the shaddow/highlight tool was available in v6.
I'm lost in the "old technology" now... I can't even remember how I did stuff in PS-CS now that I have CS2. ;)

Are you using a flash? (on camera or hot shoe?)
Where are these shaddows and how far are you from your subject?
Have a sample image?

The question was how to fix it in post processing, not suggestion on how to shoot it without shadows.

I used to do "Shadows/Highlights" years ago by using Select... Color Range... select a black area then increase the Fuzziness. Apply an appropriate Feather, then use Curves/Levels/whatever to boost the selected areas. The same process - except white on down - for adjusting highlights.

Thanks for restating the obvious ;) As you'll see, I was suggesting ways to PP it.
That's why I played off the reflector comment... besides, without a sample pic... it's hard to tell what they really want when the question is one line.
I was just prying for info... hopefully we'll get some so we can recommend something specific.

Often people here miss the obvious and go off on their own tangents.
