I spent a few days last week trying to use a tripod and was unsuccessful (I came back empty-handed:( ). Therefore, I decided to get a monopod, which I did. I took these shots with my monopod, and found that it really made a big difference. I would have never gotten these shots if I had taken these handheld.

Welcome to the Official "Dragonfly Eyeball Madness Society:" Otherwise known as D.E.M.S. These are by far, The BEST eyeball shots I've seen. Fantastic work Leo. You have raised the bar on Eyeball shots. "Dems" some great shots Leo.

"Dems" some great shots Leo.
LOL. Quite the commedian BE.

That said, awesome job on the DEMS type shots Leo. Great detail.

I too like to use my monopod. I loosen the ballhead just a wee bit so I can adjust the camera angle a bit but still maintain a steady stance. I can never seem to get a good shot with a tripod. Those little buggers move to fast for this old guy.

Very nice captures Leo. Interesting how the eye is divided into large facets facing upwards and smaller facets facing downward.

Great shots Leo, thanks for giving me hope. I just got a monopod and was wondering if I made a mistake instead of getting a tripod.

great shots but i think you will find life a bit easyer with a tripod you do not have to hold your breath as much keep-up the good work

I do the same. And, I too can never set up the tripod before the subjects are gone:cry:  , that's why I got my monopod;) . Thanks for your kind words.

Paul, I tried using a tripod, but I just never got it right. I can assure you that you would love your monopod (at least I do very much:) ). Thanks.

Leo that 2nd shot is absolutely awesome.

I've found that I use my monopod more and more, even for short lens candids - getting far more keepers. I have a quick release clip on a ballhead on the monopod in case I need the camera off in a hurry. I haven't tried the monpod with macros yet, and won't be until I get my lens back.

Al, Thanks for your nice comments. I've also just added a quick release on the ballhead. Will see how it goes. I am sure that you will love the flexibility that the monopod would give you. Happy shooting!:)
