Any advice on the above lenses...as most of you 10D users know, I have lost my wide angle capability with my Canon 28-80.....I am on a waiting list for the Canon EF 17-40 lens....I am told that the Sigma 15-30 lens is good optically....thoughts? Sigma lens is alot cheaper but I usually stick with Canon glass...thanks

I have the 15-30 Sigma right now and for the money it's a good lens. Until the 17-40L lens is available no one will be able to answer your question of which one to buy.
I plan on testing the Canon when it is available and I'll make my decision on which one to keep at that time. For now the Sigma is doing the job just fine.

You might already have this information by now. The Sigma 15-30 is a good lens but prone to flare and uses rear mounted gel filters. The 17-40L is slower but has gotten good reviews.

I have been using the Canon 17-40 L 4.0 lens for about 3 weeks now on my 10 D and I love it. If focuses very fast, the pics are very sharp, and its solid as a rock as far as build quality. If you can spare the extra $$ for the Canon instead of the Sigma you won't be disappointed.

I have both the sigma 15-30 and the canon 16-35L. I really wanted the additional view angle of the sigma but was dissapointed to find that it uses rear mounted gel filters and the front lens is so outwardly ( convex ) curved that I cant use my screw on polarizer and other tinted filters as I can with my canon. optically the sigma appears fine, but the build quality is superior on the canon( as it should be for the higher price).

You got my vote on 17-40. Great lense with reasonable price tag. Canon must have made it specially for 10D. As the shop keeper advice and I personally agree very much. 17-40 is a must have item for 10D user (if you have no ultra wide like me).
Here's some of my test shot:

I got my Canon 17-40mm 4.0 L lens for $ 799 at a local pro photo shop in Atlanta, GA( Professional Photo Resources)...they had a few of them in stock........B&H and Adorama sell it for $ 799 as well.

Take a lot of shots with my Sigma 15-30 and it is a great lens. Bought 2 L-lenses (tele) since and you CAN feel the difference. Sometimes the flare is bothering me, but not very often. You have to get used to the front lens, that is quite convex.
At the time I bought it, it was available and $300 cheaper than the Canon.

Adding on, anybody using a Sigma 28-200mm F3.5-5.6 compact aspherical hyperzoom on a Canon 10D? Any focusing issue?
