there you are! looks like you haven't missed a beat on the hockey front. liking the first set strobe placements MUCH better though. as always, timing and action is great and I can't wait to follow your stuff (photos) through this upcoming season. keeper better watch those angles a bit in the first shot though. even with a goofy camera angle, that top shelf is screaming for some puck company.

Good shots but bump that shutter speed up. 1/250 is to low for action. Put that fast lens to use and you can still push that iso higher too.

How do you expect the flashes to work at speeds faster then 1/250?

Hey Scott ! thanks....it's been a busy fall.
Strobes in the first set are bounced off the ceiling. One on each side about 10 feet inside the blue line. The rink had one of those low, flat, tinfoil like ceilings so it was ideal. The second set I had them high in the stands, one on each side. There was a nice area in the center where they washed out each other's shadows, but outside of that "hot" zone, it became harsher.
Funny - I didn't even notice all the twine the goalie was showing....leave it to a veteran tender to spot it instantly !
Cheers !

great work. Strobed Hockey is the way to go every time if you can get it set up. Your (lack of) shadows in the first 6 of 8 are superb! Love the see the set up and highlight of strobe from ground and/or if you bounced.
shot 6 is great, as you have the shavings, her facial expression and a great example of "hands away from the body" for better control and puck handling.

I am impressed, are you shooting thru the glass for from a penalty box, can you give details on strobes and placement.

It's hard to tell.....YOU'RE WEARING PINK!
I do like the first series better than the second. Any input on strobe placement. Thanks.
Edit: Nevermind. I'm an idiot. I see the post talking about strobe placement.

Darsk:
Nice! You are dialed in well in the first set. Last two as you note, different strobes, different shadows. I may give strobing a shot this season...can you PM me your setup?
Thanks!

Thanks for the comments people.
Here is a shot of half the setup for the first 6 shots. That's an AB 800, the other one was directly opposite on the other side of the ice. You can see the low ceiling of this rink, rather than 'barn-style' - it was ideal for a bounce off the foil-like ceiling cover. They were set on full power and have a 7 inch reflector attached. The s/s of the shots was actually 1/200 (not 1/250 as stated above), f4.5 iso 200.

I was in the penalty box right under where it says 'visitor'.
The image below is the only one I shot TTG. I didn't like it when I was chimping it, as I thought there was too much glare and noise from the glass. However, I was able to clean it up pretty nicely, so next time I'll do more TTG . Different angles - more options to choose on shooters.
