Will the Can telephoto ef 100mm f/2.0 usm autofocus work for indoor high school sports? Volleyball, basketball. It seems like the 85mm 1.8 will work good and be quick enough but I want something with a little more reach. I would like the canon 135mm 2.0 but I don't think the wife would go for it.

optical speed - you are good..... can't speak too much on focus speed.

all fast lenses - if using on the 300D remember the crop factor of 1.6 "field of view"
so all those focal lengths will be 1.6x - so the 135mm x 1.6 = 216mm depending on where you are postioned and the type of shots - it may be quite long.
I have the 135mm 2.8 softfocus - never used the softfocus but its a great lens and you may find some good 2nd hand

Short answer .... Yes, and very well!

I shot basketball last year with both the Canon 100 2.0 and the Canon 85 1.8 .... both fine lenses and quick enough to capture the action ..... I'd recommend either or both ....

I find the 100 is a little long for shooting courtside and much prefer the 85 f1.8, but either lens should do a fine job.

The 135 f2.8 soft focus is a great lens for portrait work. I have one and really like it, however it is not a USM and it is an older technology lens so the AF is not near fast enough for consistent indoor action sports.

I just got/ used one of those this week. Under the basket it's a little close for me. I'm looking for a 85 1.8 myself. The 100mm f/2.0 is great for football and should be good for baseball too.

Welcome to POTN! Your first post was a bump to a thread that hadn't been posted in in 4 years. That is legendary!
