Sorry to bother you all again... really focused on timing on headers last night. Let's just say it was a good thing I wasn't shooting film or I would have gone broke and dissappointed. I don't know how people like Gmen and some of the other shooters get such reliable results, but I found it quit hard to get that majic moment - and the few times I did - they were out of focus (dang metal bleachers!). Again, helpful hints on shooting these and cropping suggestions are welcome. I am only going to make you suffer through 4 shots.... cheers!

Good captures, these guys are getting some height.
BTW Is there some other type of football that we in the old world don't know about? ;)

Your models sure do get altitude, now if they just get their timing down. :-)
You're right about Gmen and some of the others. I just don't know how they do it. I'm darn glad for digital.

Those guys are in nose bleed territory! Great captures. But if this is football where are their helmets? :-)

Thanks all. Yeah, these guys get a lot more air then I expected them to. It is hard to represent the height using tight crops. And some of the collisions out there were going up for headers were just amazing... bodies flying everywhere. I am just waiting for some do-gooder politician to require helmets. Cheers!

Then you will have to call it soccer because it certainly won't be football.

You guys noticing that every thread is getting a political tone mixed in with the original content these days? It's helmet police, photography police or gasoline price gouging. I'm beginning to think the Rapture is coming soon.

Sad thing is out here in North Carolina, the medical associations are trying to get heading the ball banned for your sports, or actually require the kids to wear helmets. But agreed... enough serious stuff.... after this week I am ready for some real good fluff.

Wow. That's some altitude. Interesting shots.
Crop the ball out of the first pic and you have a different story.

Helmets?? Who needs 'em... when you can just close your eyes and pretend it never happened!
Anticipation is everything when shooting headers. If the 'keeper is about to hoist the ball forward from a goal-kick, turn your camera into the portrait position and hunt down the likely recipients. The timing is everything. Also, the lower you can get when shooting... the higher the players will appear to be jumping.... er.... hmmm....
Good pics... looking forward to seeing some more football pics soon!!
