Anyone can enter this contest. It is not so much we have these in the spirit of competition, rather we have these contests to challenge ourselves and to give ourselves motivation to take pictures that we might otherwise not do. And in turn learn and grow.

RULES

1) The contest will run for two weeks and will end on Friday 16th September, 2005 at 8:00AM GMT.

2) You can submit up to two pictures, and change these if you wish up to the time that the competition ends.

3) Post processing - nothing that substantially changes the original composition of the image. Click here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=96180)for clarification.

4) Photos must be no larger than 800 pixels at the longest dimension. Also, please try and keep the filesize down to under 200k if possible to make viewing the gallery easier for modem users.

5) No framing of pictures, text or copyright notices.

6) This competition is a learning experience so we ask you, where possible, to take photos espeically for the contest.

7) At the end of the competition, a separate thread will be started to seek the votes of forum members over the period of 1 week. The person with the most votes will be declared the winner.

 The winner will be recorded in the Hall of Fame (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=84118)

Commenting on photos before the voting closes:

You can comment on any photo in this competition, provided it does not have an asterix (*) next to the title.
If the photo have an asterix (*) next to the title commenting should wait until after voting
I'll assume that everyone is happy for people to comment on their photos.
If you do not wish to have your photo commented on, just drop me an email/pm and I'll add an asterix to the title of your photo.Note: The POTN Photographer of the Year contests are entirely separate from this one, so different rules apply.

Please be patient with me if it takes one or two days for me to get submissions posted.

Finally, please ensure that you have read this post fully and understand the rules prior to sending

There have been on going discussions re: changes to the contest both in the forum and by email. With those in mind, I'm going to relax rule 6 by dropping the part that states:
Older photos may be submitted, provided they have not previously been displayed on POTN Forums

SuperFly

does that mean that a photo taken anytime and also displayed on the forum can be entered?

Would photos that have been in a previous competition also be allowed if they happen to suit a different topic?

Yes to both those questions.

Sorry all, but I'm a bit behind on uploading photos at the moment. This is because I started a new job yesterday and so things are pretty hectic. I'm hoping to get home at a reasonable hour this evening so will get everything up to date then.

I have a question/problem regarding the following:

"Please submit photos in the format "username_0x.jpg", where x is the number of the submission (i.e. 1 or 2)"

That means we have to put our entries in a different directory for each contest, otherwise we have to delete the previous contest entries. Hope that makes sense.

I suggest the name should take the contest number and the person's name.

For example: Contest30_joe_1

What do you think.

Edit: I'm awaiting a word on the above before I send my pics to Sam. The naming convention is giving me a hard time.

The thing is, I don't keep copies of the photos after the contest is finished. The harddrive on my laptop is bursting at the seams as it is!

So, the only copy that exists (other then your own) is on fotopic. The name of each photo on fotopic is the number that you use to vote with. i.e. the first photo submitted is number one etc.

What I'm slowly getting round to is that it doesn't matter to me if you want to add the contest name to the file name. If it makes your life easier then go for it. The information I need is your user name and the number, other then that the rest is up to you.:)

Does that answer your question?

Personally, I would encourage people to say which pic(s) are their's, but I'm not the contest admin so we'll leave it to Sam.

My interpretation of the rules suggest that photo submissions should be anonymous until voting has taken place. This is to ensure unbiased voting.

In my opinion discussion of the submitted photos should also wait until voting has taken place. But since Sam gave the ok I guess its ok I just think it can have negative impact on voting.

Please don't come forward to reveal yourself until after the voting has finished. There are very good reasons for wanting to be able to discuss the pictures with the photographer before the voting. However, there is a very real risk of biasing the voting. I judge the latter to be more serious and so we have this rule.

If anyone wants to discuss this issue further, please do it outside of the competition thread.

:( Unfortunately I did not achieve the results I set out to get last weekend and after looking through my recent photos I have come to the conclusion that I don't have any photos that fit my interpretation of the subject.
