Hi guys, a friend has approched me with a view to taking photos for him that he can use for his website.
He wholesales timber flooring and would like pictures of the different styles / types of wood & finishes,he will supply samples approx 300mmx170mm,some styles are matt finish while others are semi-gloss.
I have a 5D and 24-105 or 70-200 & 580 ex with remote trigger, i have never shot "product" before so any help would be greatfully recieved.
cheers
Paul

make a light box and shoot with macro.. if the wood is too shiney try shooting in good light, no flash against a white back ground or maybe bounce your flash to evenly light the samples but not leave and flash reflections on them. that might work best.

Kinda old post but let us know how it went if you figured it out. Otherwise the post above is pretty solid as far as I've seen. The big problem I've had (just goofing around, mind you, not doing any professional product work) is that it gets a lot more complicated if you want to show off the different sheens (gloss, matte, semi-gloss, etc) without getting distracting reflections.
The light science and magic book has some fairly solid advice. Reading that is what inspired me to even give it a try in the first place.
