Go to a local CompUSA and buy a Microtech USB CameraMate. It is $20 and has drivers for 2000. Unstall CameraMate, pop in CF card and download to laptop.
After you are done, my suggestion would be do delete the photos in the camera.

thank you pekka, but the drivers on that page are twain, and they dont download the movies (or at least they say they will not download movies in the documention). the drivers that arent twain are for win Me only or macintosh.
i quote from the readme file for the USB drivers:
>(15) Movies and Downloading
>
> Movies cannot be downloaded from the camera >using the Canon Digital Camera
> TWAIN Driver since this program is based on TWAIN >standards.
does anyone know what driver i should use to install my G1 on a win2000 machine? i do need to download movies.
thanks,
-james

Right there with you.
How do you download movies from a Powershot camera?
Why does Canon sell you on this feature and then provide absolutely NO SUPPORT for it.
That's a really nice marketing ploy by Canon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think I've noticed this about the movies and anything stitched as well. Unless you run their software on the movies straight off the camera or off the card in a CF reader you don't get anything stitched or the options to create the movies.
I.e. what I'm trying to say is this, if you copy your card contents to another media like iomega fotoshow (that puts them on a zip disk) or a digital wallet or copy the card contents onto your hard drive before trying to manipulate it, the information needed for the stitch or the movies is apparently lost (i.e. they should have made that a part of the file header but apparently didn't do that). This would seem to be quite a big fly in the ointment if you ask me.
So in effect Canon is forcing everyone to do one of three things to use this camera effectively, 1) buy one or more microdrive(s) or big CF cards so they have enough storage to go on vacation for two weeks and take a ton of pictures without downloading them anyplace, 2) take a laptop with their software loaded onto it to stitch or make the movies with so they aren't lost when you move the pictures off the card, 3) Hopefully find a camera shop with their software to take care of the matter (why do I doubt the last would be doable).
I guess what I'm going to do is just have one cf card for movies and stitch shots and use different cards for stills, only thing I can figure out at this point.

By a USB-card reader or even better a card for PCMCIA-slot in which you can insert the flash card. No drivers needed as most PC's will recognize it as a second drive.
