Has anyone in Australia had any luck sourcing this lens. I thought I'd wait until I got my 350D (as most online Australian retailers websites said they were in stock). Now that I have the camera, I go to order the lens and they say 'sure, we have heaps, just none for a canon mount'.

Obviously, I didn't read the fine print.

Anyone ordered the lens from overseas?

Thanks

I ordered mine from http://www.bhphotovideo.com , to NZ. I buy most of my camera gear there.

How long did it take to arrive Tim?

Is there a warranty with it?

I guess there is also customs duties as well?

Apparantely you don't pay customs duties for digital still cameras, mobile phones & lenses. The only thing they might get you to pay is GST.

Takes about a week to arrive. There's a 7 year warranty, but you might have to return it to the states for service, but then again you might have a local agent. In NZ there are no customs duties, you just pay GST, not sure about Aus.

I just posted to http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=96467 about purchasing one is Australia so I won't repeat it here. You can import the lens from the US but both Sigma and Tamron seem to sell their lenses in Australia for about the same price you can buy them in the US. I was quoted between A$570 and A$615 (US$427 - US$460). B&H has it for US$390 + US$40 for freight. You will then need to allow 10% for GST and about A$50-$60 for customs fees. You may be able to avoid these if you use USPS as the cost is under A$1000. If it is shipped by courier (i.e. FEDEX or UPS) you will have to pay these charges if the total cost is above A$500.

I just imported a 70-200f2.8L from B&H a few weeks ago. The shipping time was about 1 week using UPS. The lens was packed very well and arrived undamaged.....

The place I purchased mine from - Teds Camera House in Brisbane the order took 3 weeks tocome through. It may therefore be worth if, you're impatient like me, order from B&H or somewhere O/S you'll probably get it quicker.
