View Full Version : S400 Lens flutter noise normal?

My S400 emits a loud fluttering noise as the lens focuses, whereas the noise of the S230 is hardly audible.

Is this normal or is my camera defective?

Same here, it's normal, hardly call it loud though.

S400 has much better optics and focusing than the S230, different system.

My first one was quiet, but it had a scratch, so I ordered a replacement. I just fired it up and sure enough, it's got that hideous sound. I'm sending mine back.

That sounds is perfectly normal and was also discussed to death over at http://www.dpreview.com/forums

Mine does it as well and I am DEFINATELY not taking mine back! :0)

P.S. Ajay & others,
What do you consider loud? Mine is quieter than, say, a cassete tape rewinding, my front load cd player accepting a cd, or a noisy mouse 20 feet away. It's nearly inaudible at arms length. These are all still relative sounds, but without a decible meter...
(Personally, i like my flutter. It lets me know when i can snap the pic.)
