It's not always easy to capture the essence of racing at a speedway meeting. The 'easy' picture is to capture one rider on their own. In order to show some competitive action, it's necessary to work all the angles. Here are some of todays results under some harsh afternoon sun:

Off the start... nice of the riders to show off their helmet colours for me...

Down the back straight... rather too close for comfort...

Pulling away from the gate... and shaping up for first bend position...

A very traditional speedway shot... holding the inside line to stay ahead...

A bit wobbly off of the start...

Three riders bunched up on the back straight... very much a rarity...

It's all a rider can do to stay upright...

And a nice tight head-on shot to finish...

OK... so the title should read "Motorbikes... racing hard... with no brakes..."

While I'm here... I'll add a wider shot showing a bit of track and stadium as well...

Great shots Gavin. It may be traditional, but the 4th works for me :)

AndyThanks Andy. The trad 'inside of the first bend shot' often makes for some good action... the only downside is that the track marshals can get in the way as you're following the riders around the curve  ahh.... c'est la vie!

Many thanks peeps! These are shot with the 1D MkII with the 300mm f/2.8 and the 70-200mm f/2.8... I shoot for a couple of publications which enables access to the centre green, although there are plenty of good shots to be made from the areas outside the track as well.

Gavin, I may post this in several threads: as fallout from moving difficulties I don't have my usual network access and may be MIA for long stretches, sigh. So you speak French AND cricket?!

So you speak French AND cricket?!Dwight, as you've probably discovered speaking 'cricket' is somewhat harder than speaking French *lol*

Yep, I have that issue with base coaches and umpires. :)

Mai, oui! Toujours la meme histoire! :D

The "pre-approved" loan for the buyer of my house that was part of their "contract" apparently wasn't as pre-approved as was represented! It is now two weeks beyond the end of a 60 day escrow closing and they still have no loan. In the meantime the house we were buying, contingent on the sale of our house, is empty and the owners have bought another house hundreds of miles away. I am contacting lawyers today as I believe that I will have to sue for breach of contract. My wife can't sleep and spends an hour or so crying every day. She is usually very tough, has an MBA, is a business manager at a large corporation and is used to dealing with crazy finances, but this has absolutely beaten her into the ground. Anyway, still no phone or DSL ... I am at work just so I can handle my email, etc. Keep the faith! I have Beach Boys and Huey Lewis images in the pipeline!
