maybe a lame question but owell. Canon has IS are there any other lens manufactures with the same thing just called something different?

Nikon, of course, has VR (Vibration Reduction) and Sigma has 1 lens with OS (Optical Stabization).

Minolta bodies have integrated IS. There are several P&S versions as well - including Mega OIS from Panasonic.
Personally, I think IS is only useful if you want a slower exposure so as not to freeze a shot, e.g. shooting flowing water, or to show moving lights.
