Hi, just thought I'd share, I shot this pic with the "worst case" photo in mind. I hand held at 200mm my (heavy) Sigma, I set the ASA to 1600, the light wasn't too good, etc. If you look at the whole pic on the screen it didn't come out too bad! It was shot in the LARGE Jpeg mode and not touched up at all. Oh yeah, I did set the "sharpness" to a +2 on the camera (I forgot to take this off).

The pic is at:

nice sample. you should check out "neat image", which will literally get rid of most of the noise in the image.
i ran your sample through my neat image pro copy and it did wonders. from 1600 iso to something which looks more like a 200 iso image in around $50. not bad.
email me if you want me to send you the result.

OK, I'm convinced. NeatImage is neat. But I am wondering if there is anything already built into Photoshop that can do same thing.

I know you can add noise to Photoshop images, but can you subtract it?

i downloaded the demo of neat image today and yes
it does the job quite well. it seems to work best on
things like headshots or perhaps macros. anyway i
worked on a portrait of my daughter that i shot yesterday
at iso1600 and it now looks great.
forums like these are wonderful for picking up pieces
of info.

thanks guys

paul

Has anyone compared Neat Image to Fred Meranda's Photoshop actions?

I have used his ISO Pro actions in PS 7 with really good results, but the results on the Neat Image web site were quite stunning.

The FM actions can be found at www.fredmeranda.com and downloaded for about $10-$15 if I remember correctly.

I just wonder if this Neat Image is worth the extra $$ and if it performs better than PS?
