Took these about a year ago in a small venue called The Horn in a local town to me (St Albans) using my trusty (but now possibly dead) Ixus 500

:)

ROCK!

hehe

They're not amazing, I just thought I'd share them. I like them anyway.

Chris - Lead singer with a band called Deckard

These guys were the 'headline' act called The Wildhearts. Guy with the dreadlocks is lead singer/guitarist Ginger, No Hair is bassist Random Jon Poole and other Long Hair is Hot Steve. Rock N Roll names eh....

Hi Dave, they look like an interesting band to photograph. The venue certainly doesn't look like it's an easy one though. Have you tried shooting with a fast lens (eg 50mm f/1.8), a higher ISO and no flash?

Good attempts though :)

edit: I just spotted that the photos were shot with an Ixus 500. Please feel free to disgredard my previous blather!

hahaha no problemo

I haven't tried anything like that with my EOS, haven't had the chance to

You will see an enormous difference and then wonder how you managed to do without it :) I know that I did.

Bad lighting is always a heartbreak! I agree with Angus, a very interesting looking lot.

they certainly are interesting

I was just happy to get a few ok pics of them, they usually play heavyish punky but melodic sort of music, this was an accoustic gig.

they managed to pull it off perfectly!

Nothing kills the mood of live band photography faster than a flash.

I've gotten some pretty satisfying results using a 50mm and 85mm, both f/1.8:

This is the 85mm:

The 50mm:

The 85mm again:

A small investment, I think, to lose the disappointing effects of a flash in that environment. You can get both lenses, spend less than $450.00, and see a big difference in your shots...

I may post this in several threads: as fallout from moving difficulties I don't have my usual network access and may be MIA for long stretches, sigh. I agree with Steve, flash is a last resort and fast glass essential. I recently picked up a 50mm f1.4 but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

It is a tiny lil venue, it's the same place I took my 1st 'gig' shots that I posted here a few weeks back. Where abouts did you stand for the full frontal shots ? Back of the room ?

From the first couple, looks like you would have been right in just about everybodys way there.

Im sure you wouldnt do that - but it looks like it :P

readily fixable. All the information is there. Hope you don't mind my tweak.
