Speaking of symmetry, I wish the best man had taken a bit more care with the ribbon. And, no, it's not my wedding... this was just parked outside one of the hotels as I was passing.
Seeing a wedding car is supposed to bring you good luck -- I hope it does for you. :) Especially with a "JM" license plate -- that really means Just Married (and maybe she's 64 and he's 76).
Cheers,
Don
To ensure your luck, how about seeing TWO wedding cars in the same day...

And what does DN stand for, divorce next?

Hope it dosen't mean divorce next...
If the first bow made you think of symetry, the second makes me think of perspective. If I hadn't seen the car, and with the (good job!) great detail in the bow with each thread in focus, I would have thought it was a good macro of a two inch wide bow on a wrapped present. But that bow was, what, two feet wide? ;)

'divorce next' could be what it means
but maybe the DN stands for the 'don't no's'
(not so funny : )
and the bow looks like what they are (sadly) having to wear in the stock exchange at the moment.
lovely clear shot though
just saying, nothing to do with the shots, but I don't like this fuss of weddings ever, and never did
its gone 'over the top' now with some of them .
makes me nearly ill
(just saying that word 'ill' because I can't think of another word at the moment) looking at the 'show' and extravagance/expence put into weddings.
personally I hate them
and the having to make small talk
and dress up, and are mostly uncomfortable.... all day : ))))
.... and thats only someone elses' wedding ..............
(wish I could bring that funny yellow face on the forum down now and leave off these > ::: )
thanks

I just can't resist applauding you Don on these two images. You *ARE* my favorite photographer off-Broadway not only because of the incredibly high technical standards you set, and meet with your photographs, but the subtlety of many of your images.
In this case, the brand of each car can be ascertained--of course the BMW rondel is easily seen, but the Acura logo and name on the license plate is harder to spot!
Great and thanks
PS. I'll take this opportunity to say something I've felt for a while now, and which may be interesting history for the vast majority of forum members who have joined in the last year: When Pekka started this site, his G1 images were amazing, and blew everyone who saw them away. Since he got his dSLRs (all 3 generations of Canon Ds now) he stopped posting images as he did with his G1. His newer images are much more commercial and while still maintaining the extremely high standards he set with his G1, I find them less approachable. But Don has taken up Pekka's mantle for me--great technique, and great images full of inspiration for the rest of us. Thanks Don. (and thanks, as always, to Pekka--the first!)

Nice crisp shots Don. Our wedding was on a snowy evening in the country.
I have just looked at our own wedding album on a spare bed-top behind me and I see no photo of our car.
Thanks for the memory!
HOWIE
PS
I was able to check this quickly because my wife has covered the bed-top with 20 odd years of kids photos into piles for "memory books" for the kids.

Funny, "Don't No" was the first thing that popped into my mind. Thanks for commenting, as always.
As for the emoticons, go to help -- http://photography-on-the.net/forum/help.php -- and print out the page and use those symbols in your posts and they will magically appear.
Cheers,
Don

Hi, Howie... you're welcome. Glad it brought back memories. I have a feeling that even if you had found a picture of the car, it probably wouldn't have had "Hello Kitty" and "Dear Daniel" blocking the radiator.
But perhaps I underestimate you.

Hey, take it easy Don. I'm not at all a cynic! Just having fun as usual.

Thank you... as always. I've said it before -- you're one of the reasons I post. Your comments and insights are always appreciated.

There are rare times when I wish for faster, more precise focusing, or more control over depth of field, which a DSLR offers. But I never wish for the two Nikon F90Xs or the two big zooms that I used to lug around (or, more often, didn't lug around), so, as you said in your butterfly post, "it's a matter of working with what you've got."
And what we have in the G-series are great cameras -- not only in terms of image quality and manual control, but small enough to have with you when opportunities appear.
Always of which leads up to a thank you for such praise. Pekka was a great inspiration for many of us -- and a constant reminder that if you're not getting the picture, it's not the fault of the equipment.
There's always just one pioneer and Pekka was it. I'm flattered to be considered as interesting.
So how do you win the long races? By outliving everyone else. :) Here's to a long life for all of us.
Thank you for the tremendous compliment.
Cheers,
Don

Hi, Craig... I just forgot the smiley. I'm definitely taking it easy and I know you were joking -- cleverly, as well.

o.k. glad you weren't serious about that and sorry for the misunderstanding; it's sometimes difficult to know someone's intentions without seeing their gestures, expressions and what not.

but I forgot about it then.
