let's never get old!
I used to build these models, maybe five or six of them...engineering without beauty is a failure...Spit is such a beautiful bird, best of them all.
"Just another Spitfire"...we are not amused by that expression!

I concur. A spitfire sighting in my part of the Commonwealth would be very welcome.

As a boy I grew up in a very rural area where there was a junkyard down the road about 100 metres. There was an old Merlin engine there that sat under a open wooden barn/shack. We marvelled at the lump of steel as we passed to to play in old cars, sit in the sheet metal UFO someone had built there and to play fighter pilot in the Japanese Zero painted Harvard trainer that sat there as well. I hope my memories of grabbing that old stick and making machine gun noises never fades. I understand the plane was a movie prop and was later saved for restoration. It's not in the junkyard anymore....

Simply as an homage to my grandfather who piloted Spits in the war. He was lucky? enough to shoot down a Messerschmidt and locate the wreckage. He took a lever from the cockpit and made a great roast fork from it. It sits in my cutlery tray to this day.

Any machine used in the defense for freedom should be preserved as an animated tribute to those that fought.

It's a damn sweet looking plane to boot!

Great shot with the two planes, but 1/800. Guys, 1/250 is the absolute highest shutter speed you ever want to use when shooting a prop driven plane.

'Just another Spitfire' as the title is ment to mean 'Just another Spitfire picture from me', not implying its 'just' a Spitfire....;)

If you check my link below, you'll see I have quite a love of this aircraft..:D

Hey....I was set to Aperture priority for a ground shot....never had time to adjust mode AND exposure compensation before swinging up to get the capture..;)

It was a very busy airshow...:D

Not at all. The difference in blade sweep between 1/320 and 1/250 is barely noticeable for instance, and at high power settings or with more than 3 blades 1/400 will do fine too.

Nice shot John - I agree it would have been nicer with a slower shutter speed but better this than not getting it all eh!

Hiya Damien,

I've even got some decent blur at 1/500th with G-AWII on one of those fast entry passes from behind the trees at OW..:D
