View Full Version : Anyone in EU sent in their Tamron 28-75 for calibration?

I wonder how long it'll take to get it back? I sent my lens in for calibration two weeks ago now (I miss it!) and the odd part is that it was sent to Stockholm, but the tech I spoke to said they'll ship it to Germany. So I wonder if the people in Stockholm will send a batch to Germany with more than my lens and that might be one of those "takes a heck of a lot of time" things?

Anyway, anyone in Europe has had their Tamron 28-75/2.8 calibrated and sent off and how long did it take for you? Was the result satisfactory??

My lens is suffering from bad front focus from f/2.8 to about f/5.8 at the widest zoom range, more obvious from far distances than near ones (did ruin some wedding pictures due to this fact, at f/8. *sigh*)

I guess no one even have gotten their lenses back yet... it's been 10 weeks for me and I still haven't gotten the lens back. Just emailed the dealer and asked him to look into this (gave him the RMA number they gave me). I WANT MY LENS BACK!!!! :(

Sorry to hear about your lens taking so long.

I'll probably be sending mine in but I'm in the USA. Their site claims it is around a 10 day turnaround. I just sent in the warranty card the other day so I want to give it some time to get there. Did you send in the actual warranty card and sales receipt or copies?

Heard back from the guy today.... he had talked to them and they are sending the lens from Germany this week and he said I'll have it before we leave for Canada next week.

Here in Europe it seems like there's mainly Tamron Germany that does these calibrations and we're a pretty huge amount of Tamron owners in Europe. I've heard that some in the UK have a place that does it, but many are sent to Germany. The turnaround time is said to be 6-8 weeks, and if I get my lens next week it'll be 11 weeks.

Anyway.... the seller (an online store) sent me a paper with the Error report and the RMA number plus a paid address tag, so all I had to do was to take a copy of my recipt and send it with the box together with the paper with the error report. They have never asked for a Warranty card, I still have that, but since I'm not sure they'll replace the whole lense I sent the whole box with everything in it, so I expect to get everything back, either new lens or calibrated lens. I have made a note of the serial number, so I know if it's been replaced or not.

I'm happy it's coming back and I'm a bit scared too... what if they did a crappy job with it? Although I have heard those who has gotten theirs back from Germany and said it's been so great that it's amazing it's such a cheap price on the lens. I hope it'll be the same with mine. I love the lense and if they've fixed the front focus problem in the wide angle and kept the clarity and sharpness in the other focal lenghts I'm going to be a very happy gal!

Sure hope you get your lens in time. That'd be great!!!

I wonder the same thing. In general, people seem to have great success sending theirs in. I'm not exactly sure the nature of my problem, but wide apertures tend to be hit or miss (mostly miss). Gets worse at wider angles and the further away I get from the subject. My pictures come out smudgy and glowy. But nothing in the image is in focus when this happens.

Many people seem to use the lens for weddings and I simply can't rely on it at the moment.

Yeah, weddings are a great use for the lens and I did borrow a friends Tamron for a wedding this summer since I didn't trust mine in the wide angles (mine was pretty useless even at f/11, so why even fight it?). Anyway, my friends copy was great, it's tac sharp from 28 mm @ f/2.8 through to 75 mm. So I know the lenscan perform well, mine didn't.

I'll report back when I get the lens back and do some tests and hopefully you'll restore your faith in the lens too. If it's worth sending it in that is. :D
