View Full Version : CSCC Test Day - Croft Circuit

Had some spare time this afternoon, so headed up to Croft for the test session prior to this weekends racing. Weather was awful, and there weren't too many who braved the conditions, but here some that did :-

#1 E-Type Jag

#2 Formula Jedi - strangest place I've ever seen a radiator on a single seater. Would have thought it was somewhat vulnerable and not very aerodynamic!

#3 Classic single seaters

#4 Not only E-types that were running

#5 and finally (for now  ) a Marcos

I'll be back at Croft this weekend, and will post pictures from the race day in due course. In the meantime, any comments or feedback greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Simon.

Oh... comments.... mmm... how about "that XJ-S with the water running off the sill looks stunning" :D

Weird radiator positioning on that Jedi... I've never quite seen the like!

Oh... and are you sure #5 is a Marcos?

Nice photos, as usual :)
The Marcos is very cool!

Its an oil cooler, technicaly a rediator, since it used to transfer heat, just not in the tradtional automotive meaning of the word.
Your right that its not very aerodynamic though, but then an aerodynamic readiator wouldn't work ;)

After a bit of head scratching with me and a mate on MSN, we've come to the conclusion that the "Marcos" is a TVR Grantura Mk 3 with the old style TVR badge on it. It was the badge that was throwing me.

Badge threw me as well Glen, hence why I thought it was a Marcos:o . Thanks for identifying it properly. The driver had a real torrid time with it today - massive amounts of understeer on turn in, with snap oversteer around about the apex.

Should be entertaining tomorrow with a few more around him!

Cheers,

Simon.

Most radiators are tucked away not stuck out the back of the car like that which was really the point I was trying to make. Any flying gravel could easily cause some damage.

Great cars, great pictures (maybe slightly more saturation/contrast would be worse a try to reduce the effects of the bad weather).

Hope it stops raining ...

Ah.... well that confirms it. With those handling characteristics it HAS to be a TVR

I was going to point out the TVR error - my dad's just bought a Griffith - the V8 version of the Grantura.

A famous Motorcycle racer said he felt safer on the Daytona banking flat out on his bike, then he did sitting in his TVR, parked in his garage. :)

Still got your FZR Tim? Have a ride down to Croft this Wednesday 14th if the weathers nice, Bike trackday, aways a fun day out.

If you see a little fatty with a bush hat and a monopod around complex or Tower give us a wave.

Got this Experimenting a bit of two fellow Darlo lads on FZR 400's bought of ebay for around £500 for two bikes, they had a great day.

Hi Rob, yeah I've still got it but its a little poorly at the moment.

But the GF has just started her own buisness and with my shift work and the two young kids, I don't realy have time to ride it so I think it will be a winter project to get it back up and running.

Anyway all my money is getting sunk into the camera at the minute (saving up for that 20D).

How did you remember I had the FZR, it must be ages since I mentioned it or posted a pic, or do I have my very own stalker ;) (the perils of being a celeb)

I neer relised how many people from around here are on this forum, SMALL WORLD

Thanks Andreas. Didn't want to push saturation and contrast too far in case the colours started to look a bit false.

It did stop raining and brighten up........on Sunday!

Cheers,

Simon.

Saw the FZR as i looked through your gallery, nice shots. My Kawasaki Z500 winter project is in it's 10th year now, so i know how it feels. Bought an XJ550 to see me through when i stripped it, but been using it now for 10 years and is now rapidly approaching winter project to.

hopeing for good weather Wednesday.
