I have noticed that some of the new posts don't make it to the section called New Posts!

I originated a message in the Flash section and it didn't make it to New Posts. I then made a comment to it and again it didn't make it to New Posts.

Am I missing something here?

Since you originated the post, it won't show up in 'New Posts' for you. It will be there for everyone else, however. If you're questioning whether or not it's in the system, go to the particular forum. It will be there.

[EDIT]
BTW, this is a difference in the latest version of vBulletin. In the previous version, they would show up in New Posts

The logic behind all this is that when you post a new post you have already seen it when posting so it is not new to you :)

This new logic applies to posts you've already viewed too. Once you view a thread, if you click New Posts again, that thread will not be displayed until there is another post on that thread.

I find this new way a little more confusing. I just viewed a new topic by Sheldon, then went to another website to find a reference to post on that thread, came back to POTN and hit new posts, but I could not find the thread. I had to search for posts by Sheldon to be able to find it again.

Personally, I liked it better the old way. It was more consistent with other parts of vBulletin. New posts always showed me the most recent posts, and the one's in bold were the one's that have new posts which I haven't seen yet, same as the way Subscribed Threads works.

I guess the workaround is to subscribe to a thread you might be interested in, and use Subscribed Threads instead of New Posts to track new topics you are interested in.

I like the new way because in the old version the links were not always updating correctly so even when I had viewed a topic the link color would still indicate that I had not read it.

As an alternative You can use the quick link "Todays posts" (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/search.php?do=getdaily)basically the same as "New posts" but show all posts read or unread from the past day.

I never saw Today's Posts!!! That's perfect. Thanks.

Ok, now that I have a handle on New Posts, Today's Posts and Subscribed threads, I like the new system for New Posts MUCH better.

New Posts = Only the newest topics which have posts that you haven't seen yet. As you view them, they disappear from the list until there is another new post (new to you).

Today's Posts = All of the Newest topics. One's that have new posts that you haven't seen are bold, one's you are up-to-date on are not.

Subscribed Threads = Topics you have started, replied to or one's you have manually subscribed to, depending on the user preference you selected in User CP.
