anyone have any experience with this lens? I hear it's quite sharp, which is EXACTLY what i'm after (preferably for less than 400 bucks)
does anyone know of comperable off-brand lenses with good quality sharpness?
thanks so much for your input!

hi dave...
i love this lens...although the non-usm motor can be a little noisy...but it is VERY sharp...
b&h has it (imported) for $439 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bh3.sph/FrameWork.class?FNC=ProductActivator__Aproductlist _html___194451___CA10028MEFQ___GREY___CatID=0___SI D=F4C3CACD410)...you see them occasionally on ebay (that was where i bought mine) they look to sell for between $300-400 on ebay...i just searched and found one up for auction now...
ebay 100 mm macro (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2923396482&category=4687)
hope this helps...

I have the old non USM version of this lens and I wouldn't part with it for double what I paid! It's sharp as a razor and bright as you could ask for. I hardly ever use it on auto focus so the noisey micromotor is not really an issue. If there is one lens in my kit that I would recommend to everyone it's this one! I am telling you, Buy one and don't look back! It should be an "L" lens.

I'd get the Canon brand (that's what I did).
B&H US version $469 + canon rebate $25

Thanks for the input, what about the Telephoto EF 100mm f/2.0 USM Autofocus Lens? it's about 100 bucks cheaper and faster too...
anyone have any experience with these? (again, concerned about sharpness primarily)
