Having used my D60 for the past 6 months for weddings i have formed in my mind a "wish list" the d60 should have. Things like faster AF, improved LCD and zoom, etc. When Canon came up with the official announcement on the 10D, its like those wishes finally come true!

Feature wise, 10D should be better than D60. Improvement on CMOS manufacturing and the new DIGIC processor, image quality should also be better than D60. So theoritically, 10D is better than D60.

I been reading several forums, and there are postings there that showed otherwise, like poor AF, inferior image quality compared to D60, 10d keeps going back for servicing, etc.

Now, is 10D a better camera than the D60?

I hope Pekka can answer this. I find his postings so assuring :)

I was about to buy a D60 when the rumours started - so held off and got one of the first 10D's in this part of the world.

I am glad I did. The build quality alone is worth it and all my colleagues who have D60's are wanting to swop to 10D's after using mine and comparing results.

If you are happy with your D60 and don't need to change then keep on using it - if you do change then your D60 will find a new home quickly as they are very capable cameras.

hi...

it isn't that i didn't LOVE my d-60...the only real annoying problem was with exposure and auto white balance...

but...i've been just delighted with the 10d...once i got through the learning curve...although canon (clearly) made a choice for the pictures to look a little less saturated (right out of the camera with default settings) i don't think that is a big deal...personally i LOVE it when a manufacturer gives us enough credit for being able to make a choice like that for ourselves, instead of FORCING our perspective with their visions...same for the slight increase in exposure (i can't even tell you how many d-60 photos i've had to increase the levels and the effect on shadow detail when i did)

the af IS much faster (and the performance in low light is noticably better...as a matter of fact...i rarely have trouble getting the 10d to lock focus) i've seen plenty of grumbling about the 10d on the various forums...but they've been more about front focusing problems and exposure problems than the 10d hunting constantly for a focus lock...i guess that that's an improvement :o

i actually DO find the image quality better than the d-60...i can't really say what or why (or even if it's just PERCEIVED because it's new :)

the build quality definately feels better too...and yes, the shutter is a LOT quieter than the d-60 (not a huge factor to me but i did happen to notice)

in short...as paul said, the d-60 IS a very capable camera...but i'm enjoying not having to tinker quite as much with the images form the 10d...

hope this info helps...

Ive owned the D30 and the D60 and now the 10D. No question the 10D is significantly better than the D60 in the auto focus speed and the color straight out of the camera is excellent . I liked the controls better on the D60 but that is a minor point. Go ahead and buy the 10D!

Thanks guys!

I already placed an order for the 10D. It was officially launched 2 days ago here in this side of the world.

I signed-up just today 4/17 to determine if I was the only one haveing a problem with the 10-D AF. It apears that this was a problem in the D-60, but so far I can personally attest to the fact that the images are much too soft, and this is not a resolution problem either. Surely Canon engineers can address this issue. Why haven't they?

Thank you! I thought I was the only one. My d60 worked GREAT my 10d is not as sharp and the colors are not that great.
I shot a lot of images that went to print without ANY problem w/the d60.
I am now looking at the Nikon 11mp camera, for 4k its right on, even if i have to spend another 4k on NEW lens, its fine. w/ the d60 i learned dig. works for prof. uses. MY D60 WORKED BETTER THAN MY 10D.
