How to post images

Hello !! I'm new to this forum and very pleasently surprised by the amount of talent and good will from all of you, my congratulations to all for participating one way or another and share your experience, thoughts, critique and advise so freely.... Now, talking about advise....I need to know How to post pics in this site. It seems the maximum allowed picture size is 100KB and we all know that such size of picture will not look very sharp at all. I noticed though a lot of people posting through their own URL site (I do not have one) but also a few that have posted pics much larger than the "allowed" size and NOT from a personal URL site (when I clicked on the pick and look for properties it said URL photography on the net/attachment). so,,,How do I post my pics in the original size ?:confused:

This is absolutely not true at all. I very very rarely have to post more than 65KB - even at 800x600 - and my pictures look pretty darn good.

They're all 800x600 and only the 4th image and the last are over 100KB, and not by much. I could have *easily* gotten them down under 100KB, even with all that grass which gives JPG compression a hard time.


Do you use Photoshop? If so, you should be using the Save For Web function to get your images to a good size while retaining quality. If you use Paint Shop Pro then use their Optimize feature when you Save As JPG.

It's actually made for creating an Avatar, but if you change the file and image sizes to 100KB and 800x600 maximum you should be fine. If you set 800x600 and still can't get below 100KB then try 640x480 or something in between.

Other than an image with a LOT of details, like grass, 100KB should not be a problem. Of course you could then go to 500x400 or something like that.


Getting your own web server or using a photo hosting site is by far the better way to go. A lot of people here use Fotopic or PBase and then you can use whatever file size you wish - though 800x600 @ 100KB is still a reasonable size.

Thanks! There's a few avatars around here which benefitted from that tutorial - which makes my time and effort very worthwhile. There's nothing worse than spending a few hours on a tutorial that just gets ignored. :-)
