I will be shooting an upcoming event. The images will eventually appear in a magazine. I don't particularly want to shoot in Raw Mode because of the time factor of converting the images . . . even with a film reader.
So, I was thinking of shooting in the 3072 x 2048 mode.

Can anybody tell me how much quality difference there is between the Large/Fine mode and the Large/Normal mode on the D60. I would be download the jpegs, doing some minor photoshop and then saving them as Tiff files. . . The magazine would do the color separations, etc. The largest that any of the images would end up in the magazine is 8.5 x 11 inches, most likely they will be half that size. . . Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks

At 8.5 x 11 any loss in quality due to using jpeg is not going to be an issue. I've printed 11x14 without any sign of JPEG artifacts. The advantages of using RAW are not limited to "quality" but also include more flexibility in color correction and a little more highlight detail than you will get with JPEG.

Good luck.

Agree with lziering. Large JPEG is the same resolution as RAW. Make sure you select Large/Fine. Nevertheless, I found RAW a much more flexible solution. Adjustments to shadow depth, white balance, exposure, and so on, are just better with RAW data. Using Breeze Browser you can batch several (all if you wish) and the conversion times aren’t all that bad. Have fun at your event!
