Ive got 2 x 1DmkII's a 20D and 4 L series lenses plus flash guns and batteries, bags tripods etc etc all covered under my house insurance.
I made sure the insurance company has a copy of every thing ive got and Ive also got a letter from them agreeing to the prices of the cameras and lenses.
Doing it through my house insurance has worked out alot cheaper than going through a dedicated insurance company.

I'm not sure where you are a located but for Canada a single camera body can be covered under your contents home insurance. Not until you start to reach a fairly significant gear list will they want you to carry an special rider on your policy and then charge you extra for it.
I do have all of mine covered to the point that if I accidently drop something it is covered. It costs me about 700.00 CAD for my coverage. Certainly wouldn't hurt to inquire with your insurance agent.

I have my 300d + all lenses/ camera related stuff/ computer equiptment insured thru State Farm under a Personal Articles policy.
about $12,000 total worth of stuff insured for about 150 dollars a year.
Under this policy I could drop my camera in the river or throw it there myself and have it replaced.
The policy has already paid for itself when my computer got a little bit of lightning inside and fried herself up real good.
Get insurance. You'll wont' regret it.
my 2 cents.

Took me a long time to find an insurance company in aus that would cover my room & contents. But just the last few days I found one and also included $3000 personal property for accidental damage for the camera gear
