So that was shot on 9-12-05? Look at the difference between yours and mine. Mine was shot at sun down on 9-11-05 just north of you in Michigan. Huge difference in the sunlit edges...

Man Adrian that is great. I want your lens. All are nice and it's cool to see the differences in what you see from a different location.

Thanks guys for those kind words.

I know that the 600mm is an extravagance but having purchased all sorts of crazy things over the years, i feel that this was worth it. I would now like to capture some stunning wildlife images and when time/work commitments permit, i will venture out and follow my heart in that direction. I would also dearly love to capture some stunning motorsport images.
All i need now are some opportunities.

Stay well!

Adrian, I love your moon shot. The texture and shadows of the moon's surface in the lower left corner is just awesome. They are all nice and it is very interesting to see the differences in the moon in various areas.

Adrian, that photo is awesome! Good work.

I hope somebody will keep this going and post a 9-15-05 shot too!

Hi guys,

Comments welcome :D

Very, very good shot. Moments of good seeing are few and far between, but you nailed the optimum shot. Some may think the moon is easy to shoot, but actually it is rather difficult.

Great shot, Adrian! Makes me wish I still had the 600 f/5.6!
Here's one from this evening 9/14...

I like the way you've captured the cloud pointing at the moon, very artistic.

A wish on this theme, would be to capture the earth from the moon. I suspect it would be a lot easier as the earth is around four times bigger, there is less c**p to shoot through from the moon side and finally on the right day, the colours should be awesome!

Oh well, just keep dreaming.....

Just think though, possibly in our lifetime we'll be able to take just that shot from the moon... Or maybe it will be in the lifetime of our children... But I would love to be able to take at least one shot like that too!

There is a strange story behind this picture. I was in Nuneaton my friend was in Sussex. He had his 1D MkII, 600mm L and 2x Tcon set up in his garden. I gave him the settings, he took the pic, he mailed me the RAW and I did the post processing. So who’s picture is it :D

Can I join in :) EDIT ^^ that one makes mine look a bit poor :( ^^
Here's one I took last night (Sept 14th) Its interesting to see how the moon is looking from different points on the globe on the same evening :)
Can I add to the votes for getting an Earth shot please, I'd love to do that.

Wow, more great shots... We're under cloud cover now so I won't be able to get another shot for a day or two...

Man these are cool shots.

PhotosGuy - Love the way you got the clouds in your shot.

neil_r - I would say your friend owns the pic. He is the photogragher, you are the teacher and photo lab technition.

It's really bright tonight.
It seems there is less light polution in West Sussex, my moon appears whiter.

Damn...I'd say that one takes the prize. I wouldn't be happy with it, though...I really can't be actually "happy" with a picture unless I was the one that took it with my own equipment. Weird? Anyway, that's an effing awesome shot. Absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing.

There was a great moon last night too but all my cards were full! It was as orange in color as the sun just as the sky started to darken at sunset...

These are all great shots. I tried some moon shots last night...but it's back to the drawing board. I had the cam set on the wrong setting! I ended up with a ball of light and a shadow that looked like the moon. Ha! I have SOOOOOOO much to learn about this cam!
