Assuming that everyone of us would rank Canon as our favorite what would be your second favorite camera brand?

Film and Digital. Whatever your second favorite would be (if you even have one).

Mine would be Olympus. I've never had a problem with them and neither has anyone else I know who has had an Olympus.

I'll vote Olympus, too. I have a soft spot for them because my first real camera was an OM-1 ... I loved that camera. I appreciate, too, how they seem to have no fear of being a little different ... innovative, even. (I'm not sure they're on the right track with their 4:3 system, but I admire that they're giving it a go. It appears to be the first "designed from the ground up" digital SLR system.)

Film and digitalOK, I miss my Bronica SQa for it's large 6x6 negative, and it was a joy to shoot. :D Pentax manual cameras are nice, and my fave of that bunch is the MX, although I have a few M42 screw mount lenses too. Also, my old Olympus E10 was pretty good for its day, hmm, I'll go with the Bronica. :D Or WAIT...............

My first 35mm cameras were Olympuses so I have a soft spot in my heart for them. And I've always wanted to get me an Olympus SLR camera when I was in high school but could never afford it. My first SLR camera was the Pentax (screw mount). So there you go. If it's not a Canon, then it would either be an Olympus or a Pentax.

I like Minolta film cameras

There are a few different possible answers depending on what criteria you impose.

If I had to start all over again and there was no Canon around, I'd probably buy Nikon. At any given moment, somebody else might have a bettery camera or a hot new lens, but as a complete system based on what's currently available, it would have to be Nikon.

Guess that makes me a heretic.

Can we Ban moderators? Or just Stone them?

I have never had much interest in shooting film, so I would have to have a look at a Fuji if for some reason I couldn't get a Canon.
Iv seem some great photos come from some of thier pro-sumer models.
Otherwise Noink, simply because they about on par with Canon in many respects, especialy in terms of avliablity of a complete digital SLR system.
But I would never buy one of thier compact or pro-sumer Digitals.

Minolta. Still use my Dimage 7hi from time to time, and have a blast using my mother-in-law's old SRT-201. Kids: "What? No autofocus?" heh heh heh

Nikon, of course! They're the closest rival and keep Canon on its toes. I don't have much experience with Nikon cameras though (just occasionally using a friend's). My first SLR was a Pentax. Can't remember the model, lens or any other details about it except that it was full manual everything. I loved that camera!

I've mentioned it several times on this forum before, but I'll say it again. Definitely Olympus. I've had three Olympus digital cameras, and one of them still sees more use than my 10D or 20D. Not by very much, but I do go to it more often because it's smaller and easier to carry on hikes. I've never had an Olympus film camera though. For film, I guess I'd say Pentax is my second favorite.

My first SLR was also an OM1. Great camera, I still had it untill I gave it to my dad so he could bring it on his motorcycle trips. I guess my current second favorite is my Mamiya 645.

Hmmm...
I think I would have to go with Kodak (from film days), followed by BAE (makers of my new pet camera) and then Raytheon (like I have a choice).

Oh you mean a camera you all can get your hands on :)

I would have to go with which ever one works with a 22MP Phase back (what I would buy if I had twice the money I needed), Sony (they have been fairly innovated), then Nikon (hey its better then nothing and it really is not that bad).

Just my opinion,

My first SLR was a Konica, film of course and I actually wore the shutter out after 100,000+ shots. I really loved that camera. I replaced it with a Canon AE-1 because of the "program" mode and kept it until recently where I sold it on B&H (this year).

I've had other digitals too but no DSLR's until my coveted 20D which is a great camera (if I can just learn how to get sharp photos:confused:)

I truly love my 20D and think it's awesome and much better at taking photos than I am.

My favorite easily is the Canon 20D.

I would have to say Nikon. Growing up I have always been intersted in photography and saw that alot of professional photographers were using Nikons. Of course I couldn't afford one so my first film camera was a Pentax. When I finally decided to go for broke and buy my first DSLR, I almost bought a Nikon. My brother talked me out of it and swore that the Canon was the way to go. Am I every so glad he talked me out of the Nikon:)

I still have my Nikon F. Built like a tank, or a Timex ("Takes a licking and keeps on ticking.") Been working since I bought it almost 40 years ago.
My late wife's Minolta (30 years old) still works, too.
I even use some of the Nikon prime lenses with the Rebel.

It would have to be Nikon, or a Hasselblad (dream on).
In the film days I used Nikon and Canon, so I like both. Once I had the chance of shooting with a 6x6 Hassel, and fell in love with it.
BTW...I stll have my Nikkormat FT ( the first reflex I ever owned). It still works, too !!!

Granpaw, how do you fit the Nikon primes to the Canon? I own a 20 D, and have seen there's a converting ring in the market. A bit pricey. Is it worth it?

I don't have any experience with any other brands, but based on reputation, I'd have to pick Nikon.

Why's everyone act like it's a sin to admit they make good cameras? If Canon makes the best cameras (and I'm certain that they do), we should be secure enough in that belief to acknowledge that their closest competitor is a close second.

Or Hassy...

Coming out the lala land, it's a Zenit, Kiev, canonet Zeiss and Yashica.

If there was no Canon I would stop enjoying photography! :D **puts hands out for kiss a$$ of the year award**

Honestly: I love my Minolta for 35, and I will never get rid of my Mamyia for Medium format.
