Friends,

I am on the way to buy my first DSLR. After reading through all the forums it is still open what to do. I have 3 NIKONs (FM2, F301, F90) with a buch of 6 lenses with 3 of them are D type. Also have a CANON G1, which I love. Everything works exceptionally well. I do some Astrophotography (see my homepage). So my choice is between :

* NIKON D100 : actually no, as not suitable for astrophotography and noisy. But my lenses will fit.

* CANON 10D : ??, very good images, low noise, good for my low light work, but NONE of my lenses will fit. Seems to be THE recommendation.

* FUJI S2pro: ??, also very good images, low noise, have seen a few but good astrophotos on the net. My lenses will fit. Slightly higher price than 10D. Those who have it love it.

If I go for a camera, it shall be for quite a while, as I cannot afford a "buy and sale again" ...

So guys what do you say ??? Where to go ??

Best Greetings Christoph

I'm not sure that using a digital camera for astrophotography is your best bet. Long exposures produces heat-generated noise from the imaging chip. This can be "subtracted" in Photshop by taking a second exposure at the same time of a totally black frame but you mgiht reconsider the move to digital.

OK, that is clear. I work with a cooled CCD camera for astrophotography. But more and more excellent images with a D60 for example appear. See J.Schedlers site.
