How can I make a calendar format online album? [Archive]

The desired result is a calendar-format thumbnail page with daily links to that day's pictures (probably less than 10 per day). I'm OK with hand-coding the thumbnail page so that I have full control over it, but I'd like to automate the back end.

I have been using Coppermine and I posted a question on their support forum for ideas. However, if anyone has done this using a different program, please post the details.

FWIW I got a response over at Coppermine and for now I will keep going in that direction since the installation already exists. In a nutshell, the images all go into one album tagged by date, and the links from the calendar will perform searches which create daily albums.

However, I can't believe that I'm the only one doing this so if anyone has a similar album in place, I'd love to see it and learn more about how it was created.
