Having just returned from New York where, together with another 130 UK police officers, I had the honour and privilege to be able to participate in the 4th Anniversary of 9/11, I just wanted to say a massive 'Thank you' to the citizens, police officers, fire fighters, in fact everybody in that wonderful city for their hospitality and welcome.

The ceremony was extremely moving, despite the incredible heat which we endured in full uniform. We all just wanted to show our support to all those involved in 9/11, victims, families, rescue workers and residents.

I was fortunate to talk to two officers from Bergen County, one of whom told of he and another officer digging in the fiery, burning rubble on 11/11 finding two police officers bodies impaled on the superstructure and taking all night to remove them. How could someone get over that experience? But they apparently have! Only one story from the multitude but it vividly demonstrated the hell that was Ground Zero.

My second visit to that great city will certainly not be my last. So once again New York, thanks for a memorable visit.

(and thanks to 'Juniors' and 'Carnegie Deli' for their fantastic cheescake ;) )

I doubt they've gotten over it.

It's all a question of how they deal with it emotionally, and how display that emotion in public...

NYC seems to have a bad reputation as far as hospitality goes, but I've always found the citizens to be just as friendly as anywhere else. Glad you had a memorable visit.

And NYC deserves that reputation. I grew up in Cleveland Ohio and moved to NYC last summer, I've been here a year now. This has to be one of the most disrespectful places on the earth.

I think we should all be honored that the UK took the time and trouble to send 130 of its finest to participate in the program. That kind of support is deeply appreciated. I know that around here we were all shocked by the underground bombings suffered in London. I guess no place is immune from that sort of thing.

I am from the midwest but lived for four year in NYC when I went to college. Some New Yorkers can be a bit rough but the vast majority were kind and most helpful.

Unfortunately, my only experiece to date with the UK was a 45 minute stop for fuel at Prestwick during a flight to Moscow a number of years ago, But the airport staff were just wonderful at 6:00 AM in the morning and gave a sleepy yank who had no British coins a cup of coffee in exchange for a dime (it was a long time ago). A trip to London and parts north is certainly on my must do list in the near future.
