After calling 20+ stores in the Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, NY area, I actually found a Canon 10D in stock at Ippolito camera in Buffalo, it was the last one! I picked up a canon 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM lens but i'm not sure I like it.

My initial reaction is complete and utter awe. I've never had a camera focus so quickly. Coming from a Toshiba PDR-M70, Canon AT-1, and Minolta DiMage 7i, I'm completely in love with this new camera.

I do have a question or two, especially regarding the 100mm EF 2.8 macro lenses. Is there any huge difference between USM and non-USM? Is the focus speed similar? I don't care as much about noise as I do about functionality.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I'd be lost without it!

Hi Dave,

Yes, there is a difference in focusing speed between USM and non-USM lenses. Not a huge difference mind you, but you can notice without any trouble. You will also notice that the non-USM lenses have slightly more noise when focusing than the USM lenses.

Regarding the 100mm EF 2.8 macro lens, this is one of the sharpest lenses that Canon makes, not the fastest or the quietest but I'm sure you would forgive these short comings after you've seen the results that this lens will produce.
