I'm just coming to the end of my first month as a 1D owner. As a sports shooter, the camera lives up to all expectations and brings a whole new dimension to shooting just about every sport around !

One downer for me remains the lack of saturation in the fine jpeg images. I don't expect to get the deep intensity of the D30's images (my previous camera) but I find the flesh tones to be very pale, bleak and offering up very little by way of improvement options in PS7 ........ which is holding back some very good images from being great.

I use color matrix 2 but otherwise haven't changed anything.

Shooting RAW, if it makes a difference, isn't really an option as my shooting sessions tend to be quite long and I'd eat up all available storage too quickly.

Anybody have any in-camera tweaks, settings, tricks, etc that might add some warmth to my shots ?

Paul

Paul,

After all the money you have invested in the 1D I cannot see the logic in not spending a bit more on some large CF cards.

Then you can shoot RAW and enjoy the benefits of converting them in a variety of ways with something like BreezeBrowser.

You will surely find a mode that gives you the saturation you lack.

I'm using a (new to me) 1Ds and will be ordering some more large (512) cards today. Not having enough cards is like buying a Leica and then getting the cheapest mail order film and processing.

There's an interesting logic here that says lashing out on a big bucks camera must mean you can afford to similarly lash out on big bucks accessories !

Isn't there also some logic that says if you've spent big bucks on a camera, you may not be in the best position to spend more on potentially "nice to have" accessories ?

Appreciate the advice Tony but, for now, I'm going to try out some other solutions that I'm assured will give me better results without the extra spend and without shooting RAW.

Greetings-
The above said, please go take a few RAW shots..and the deep color will change your mind!
We have also gotten so used to over-saturated color- that normal color representation looks pale. The colors on the 10D are dam close to real. Also, I noticed that my Sigma 20mm makes much better color than my Canon lenses.
I like saturated color too!

take care-
Bob

Paul-
I don't know what you are shooting as far as the conditions are ( lighting, distance involved and minimum shutter speeds required), for me having used the 1d for the last 14 months for outdoor action photography I had the same feelings about color and have found that using color matrix 1, fill flash or manual flash and always shooting in manual mode have given great results, and when I switched to raw that seemed to help, though I wouldn't know how. As expensive as CF cards are, I bought a cheap laptop to download onto thus with 4 CF cards and a laptop I can stay on location all day with only making a few trips to the car for downloads.

Good luck-
